Mr. Lam Van Hong is a familiar name to many professional and amateur players in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, as well as many national players who have played football at Bau Thanh stadium (Long Dien district).
Passionate about football since he was a student until he became a civil servant in Long Dien district, Mr. Lam Van Hong led the Long Dien district football team to continuously achieve high results in the Ba Ria - Vung Tau provincial football tournament.
In 2002, Bau Thanh Stadium was inaugurated. Since then, Mr. Lam Van Hong's name has been associated with the football field associated with this historical place. In the inauguration match of Bau Thanh Stadium, Long Dien District team, captained by Mr. Lam Van Hong, played a friendly match with the Vietsovpetro Joint Venture team.

Now 57 years old, he is the Chairman of Long Dien District People's Committee, but every week Mr. Lam Van Hong is present with Truong Viet Club on the football fields in Long Dien District, Ba Ria City to interact with football teams in the area and also invites from Ho Chi Minh City.

After each week of working as Chairman of Long Dien District People's Committee, on weekends, people witness the appearance of player Lam Van Hong, devoting himself to football matches in the spirit of "playing fair, winning fair, cheering fair".
"Football is in my blood. I'm old and it's hard to compete with young players, but when I go on the field, I still give my all to create beautiful football and play with all my heart," Lam Van Hong shared.
Mr. Lam "the soldier" of Truong Viet Club commented on his "tough player": "Mr. Hong is a very passionate football player, when he enters the field he always gives his all with his teammates. Thanks to him, the football movement of the district often has quality tournaments".
Thanks to Mr. Lam Van Hong's attention, in addition to maintaining grassroots football events, Bau Thanh Stadium has been trusted by leading professional clubs in Vietnam such as Binh Duong and Da Nang for many years to set up training camps, thanks to the very good quality of the grass and functional rooms.
At the age of 57, Long Dien District Chairman Lam Van Hong still plays regularly every weekend.
To develop football, Mr. Lam Van Hong directed the People's Committees of communes and towns to renovate local stadiums to create the best playing surface for people and young people to play football.
"Having more football fields will attract more people to practice and develop their football skills. From these grassroots fields, we hope to find the best players for the locality as well as the country," Mr. Lam Van Hong shared.
Most recently, the People's Committee of Long Dien district invested billions of dong to build a new Long Hai stadium, which was inaugurated at the end of 2023.
On the smooth green grass of Long Hai Stadium, Truong Viet Club won 5-3 against Tran Phu Club of former player Hoang Hung, where Mr. Lam Van Hong scored a goal from the 11m penalty spot.

Former football star Hoang Hung shared: "Recently, I was very happy to meet Lam Van Hong again in the friendly match to inaugurate Long Hai Stadium. I was very happy that he was still strong, passionate and full of enthusiasm in helping the locality have another quality football field.
I have known and played football with Lam Van Hong for a long time, first through hearing from seniors, then through matches with each other on the field. Hong is very dedicated, always full of enthusiasm and passion for football.
Most importantly, Mr. Hong knows how to play and loves to play football, always thinking about building a movement from the grassroots to the district. That is a very good thing and hard to find. I really admire the way Mr. Lam Van Hong built a spacious infrastructure, built grassroots football classes in Long Dien district to lay the foundation for the future."
Thanks to such enthusiasm, Long Dien district defeated many other competitors to win the right to host the qualifying round of the THACO Cup 2024 Southeast region for the first time, with the participation of 6 universities from Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai and Binh Duong provinces.
This historic tournament will kick off on January 12 at the spacious Bau Thanh Stadium, with a quality that is no less than the home stadium of first-class teams. On the afternoon of January 11, the Organizing Committee will hold a technical meeting with representatives of the VFF, sponsors and 6 teams.
