These two seaports are located adjacent to each other in the Cai Mep deep-water port area, and have many similarities in port wharf infrastructure to connect and form a common wharf in the middle.
Therefore, the cooperation proposal between TCTT and CMIT received support from the Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Administration, General Department of Customs, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Customs Department and Cai Mep Port Customs Branch.
The establishment of a common wharf will help to lengthen the wharf, increase operational capacity, improve service quality and enhance the capacity to receive ships of both sides. Thereby, contributing to the goal of developing an international transit port at Cai Mep - Thi Vai.
According to Mr. Vu Hong Hung - Director of TCTT Port, previously, each wharf was only about 600m long, so when receiving ships, the remaining area could only receive barges, or was idle.
"When connected to form a 1,200m long wharf, both ports can accommodate 3 large ships at the same time, helping to increase cargo handling capacity, reduce waiting time; optimize added value for customers and shipping lines. Thereby contributing to enhancing the prestige, capacity and service quality of Vietnamese seaports in the Cai Mep area," said Mr. Hung.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Le Ngoc Khanh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee hoped that in the coming time, the Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Administration, and the General Department of Customs will accompany and help the ports overcome difficulties and confusion in the early stages of combined exploitation. As well as continue to implement many positive solutions, helping to attract more goods and more ships to Cai Mep - Thi Vai port.
"I believe that the opening of the fence for joint exploitation between TCTT and CMIT ports today will be an important step towards forming a common management and coordination mechanism between all ports in the Cai Mep - Thi Vai area. Towards an open port mechanism in the near future and orienting a free trade zone associated with the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster," said Mr. Khanh.
