Previously, the theft of a toilet made of 103 kg of gold also caused a stir in public opinion.

The £4.8 million (VND144.4 billion) toilet is an artwork titled "America", created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan from 103 kg of gold, to satirize excessive wealth.

The toilet disappeared from Blenheim Palace (Oxfordshire, southeast England) in September 2019. Before that, it was fully functional and thousands of people were queuing up to experience it.

Thames Valley Police said the gang, traveling in two vehicles, broke into Blenheim Palace and removed the toilet before 5 a.m. on September 14, 2019 (local time), according to Reuters .

At Oxford court on April 2, suspect James Sheen (39 years old) admitted to theft of property, transporting criminal property and conspiracy to commit a repeat offence.

The suspect, who lived in Northamptonshire, is currently serving a 17-year sentence for a series of burglaries, including stealing cash from ATMs. He also stole £400,000 worth of tractors and valuable prizes from the National Horseracing Museum in Newmarket, Sufford.

Three other men have pleaded not guilty to the burglary, with Michael Jones, 38, charged with theft. The other two defendants, Frederick Does, 35, and Bora Guccuk, 40, have both been charged with conspiracy to deal in property obtained by crime.

They are scheduled to appear in court on February 24, 2025, and the trial will last 4-6 weeks. The whereabouts of the golden toilet are still unknown, while some have suggested that it may have been melted down or that the theft was staged by the artist. Cattelan claims he does not know where the toilet is.
