Dr. Nguyen Tuan Nam: Helping Vietnamese people realize their dream of studying in Germany

Giving up the opportunity to work in Germany, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Nam returned to Vietnam with the desire to help Vietnamese people realize their dream of studying in Germany and contribute to the country's education.

Giving up the opportunity to work in Germany, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Nam returned to Vietnam with the desire to help Vietnamese people realize their dream of studying in Germany and contribute to the country's education.

Go far to come back

Nguyen Tuan Nam was born in 1988, a native of Thanh Hoa, and studied in the Mathematics and Information Technology Talent Engineering class at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Immediately after completing his studies in Vietnam, he was granted a special exemption to skip the master's degree to receive a doctoral scholarship at Heidelberg University (Germany). In 2016, he received his doctorate with a perfect score and was one of the youngest doctoral graduates of the school.

After that, he worked for a technology company in Frankfurt. During the 3 years working there, his desire to return to Vietnam became stronger.

Sharing with Dau Tu Newspaper, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Nam confided that his motivation to return was formed when he was a university student. During a German class, when his teacher assigned him to read a passage, there was a sentence describing a corner of Berlin: "Under the bridge over there, some Vietnamese people are selling smuggled cigarettes." Always proud of his homeland, he was very sad to see the image of Vietnamese people like that.

“For many days after that, I had only one thought in mind: to change the negative images of Vietnam and its people in the eyes of international friends, especially Germany - the country I consider my second home,” Nam recounted.

He also realized that the clear differences between the education and labor markets of the two countries will create opportunities to complement each other. Germany has a high-quality education system and is experiencing a serious labor shortage. The German government has many attractive policies for foreign students such as free tuition, paid study, job opportunities after graduation, suitable for long-term settlement.

Meanwhile, Vietnam has an abundant young workforce. Due to a lack of training orientation, many graduates have to work in fields other than their majors, resulting in unstable jobs.

“I have a burning desire to bring German education closer to young Vietnamese people, helping to provide opportunities for long-term study and work in the country with the leading economy in Europe,” Nam said about his dream.

In 2018, leaving behind a bright future in Germany, he returned to his homeland to pursue his dream of starting a career in education.

In the early days of starting his business, Nguyen Tuan Nam experienced countless difficulties, from financial shortages, to fierce competition with study abroad programs on the market and having to convince parents and students to trust a young educational model...

Despite the challenges, he always believes that he is lucky to have gathered a founding team of former overseas students, with the desire to bring development opportunities to many Vietnamese students. After a trial period, in 2021, he officially established BLA Education Group Joint Stock Company.

With a background in technology, Dr. Nguyen Tuan Nam builds classes in both in-person and online models. In particular, the online learning management system helps students learn anytime, anywhere, while helping teachers and parents easily monitor their children's learning results. In addition, Mr. Nam also built a German learning application, which is widely supported by students and users.

Currently, BLA has more than 1,000 students studying and working in Germany. In 2023 alone, the Company had more than 500 students successfully go to Germany. From its headquarters in Hanoi, BLA will expand its training network to Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang in early 2024.

Dr. Nguyen Tuan Nam believes that each student of BLA is a Vietnamese ambassador in Germany, a bridge for Germans to love Vietnam more. Therefore, the company not only focuses on German language training, but also focuses on teaching skills and building culture for each student. The founder explains: “Only when Vietnamese people have positive thoughts and goals while still in Vietnam, can they take the right actions and build a good image when they come to Germany.”

Accordingly, in addition to knowledge from books, BLA students also experience real-life events about German culture, participate in German language clubs with native speakers. Career orientation events also take place regularly at the center to provide knowledge about career opportunities as well as business culture in Germany.

When students finish the German language course, the Company provides support services for students in job application and visa procedures. In Germany, BLA has an office to support students throughout their studies and work, ensuring that students receive timely help when needed.

“The German study abroad market in Vietnam is increasingly vibrant. However, many Vietnamese students when going to Germany do not meet the necessary requirements of businesses, such as communication skills, discipline, etc. Therefore, BLA will focus more on the quality of each student, providing intensive training in foreign languages and German culture for students before going to Germany. The company aims to put Vietnam in the top 3 countries with the best quality students and workers in Germany,” affirmed Dr. Nguyen Tuan Nam.
