Mountain boy becomes double valedictorian

Living and studying in a mountainous district with difficulties in transportation, limited technology, and hard-working parents... However, that was the motivation for Ho Quang to study hard and aim for a better life.

In 2019, Quang became the valedictorian of the Mathematics Education major (English-taught program) at Hue University of Education and then graduated with distinction as valedictorian of the major with an average score of 3.69/4 in June 2023.

Sharing the reason for choosing math education, Quang said it partly came from his family's direction, but mainly because he loved this field of study.

For Quang, 4 years of university study were a process of great effort. To study well in the English training program, Quang developed a suitable learning method, studied the documents, and asked for help from teachers, friends, and seniors. Quang said: "At first, my English was only at a normal level, sometimes I couldn't understand the lessons. Gradually, I improved by closely following the lectures of the teachers, and asking questions in class about any part I didn't understand. I tried to solve all the exercises the teachers gave me and found more exam questions to solve while studying, and read more bilingual documents to improve my vocabulary."

Quang has won the title of Excellent Student 3 times, won 3rd prize in the National Math Olympiad in 2023, received the school's study encouragement scholarship for many consecutive years, a scholarship from the National Key Program for Mathematics Development in the period 2010 - 2020 for students majoring in mathematics, the Vallet scholarship 2022...

During his university studies, Quang applied to be a tutor with the hope of supplementing his professional knowledge and earning extra income. "Studying and teaching at the same time helped me review my math knowledge very well, and my teaching skills and presenting a math problem to students were also improved," Quang shared.

Commenting on this talented university classmate, Dinh Thai Trang shared: "Quang is a hard-working, energetic student, loved by teachers and friends. I really admire Quang and the achievements he has achieved now are completely deserved. Quang has a solid knowledge base, is sociable, friendly and often helps friends in their studies."

Currently, Quang is waiting for the civil service exam to become a teacher. In the future, he will continue to study and improve his skills with the goal of contributing to the development of education in Vietnam.
