The Hon Thom cable car line (Phu Quoc) is expected to welcome visitors again from December, after a maintenance period lasting more than two months by domestic and foreign experts.

With the reopening combined with the operation of Aquatopia water park and Exotica game zone, Sun World Hon Thom is expected to bring new experiences to visitors on their journey to explore Phu Quoc.

Previously, the Hon Thom cable car line announced that it would stop receiving passengers to conduct periodic technical maintenance. The project has complex operating techniques with high safety, requiring regular annual technical maintenance. A representative of Sun World Hon Thom - the unit that owns and operates the cable line said that every 6 years, the international team of experts Doppelmayr - Garaventa will conduct a comprehensive major maintenance.

According to experts, regular maintenance and inspection of the cable car system plays an important role in determining the operation and lifespan of the project. Regular maintenance also allows the team of experts to come up with plans to repair and replace worn components. These maintenance consumables must be manufactured and imported from Europe to ensure technical consistency and manufacturing quality, helping the cable car system operate safely and consistently.

This maintenance period involved 6 foreign cable car experts and 20 Vietnamese engineers from the maintenance team of the Sun World Hon Thom complex. The project's items such as the cable, cable support pulleys, anti-vibration weights on the corresponding cable, cable car cabins... were checked synchronously.

A representative of Sun World Hon Thom said that the cable car maintenance process is meticulously planned. The 18 tons of specialized equipment and cable winches used for the cable car line are not manufactured in Vietnam, and there are no available replacements, but must be completely imported from Austria and Switzerland and transported by plane.

"Determining that the safety and satisfaction of visitors are the top priority, Sun World Hon Thom is determined to carry out the largest periodic maintenance ever, despite the significant cost of human resources and materials," a representative of Sun World Hon Thom shared.

The process of transporting equipment to the towers also faces many challenges due to the sea and mountainous terrain. The Hon Thom cable car line has a total length of nearly 7,899m, crossing the sea and 6 cable towers on the islands, of which the highest tower is up to 164.4m. The access road to the cable towers has a limited area, due to the high requirements for nature protection, not damaging the forest trees and landscape. In addition, the wind and weather of the sea in the South of Phu Quoc Island also significantly affect the maintenance work at high altitude.

Hon Thom Cable Car is the world's longest three-wire cable car over the sea, connecting An Thoi town to the entertainment complex on Hon Thom Island. The project is invested by Sun Group and produced and constructed by Doppelmayr - Garaventa, the world's leading cable car company in Switzerland.
