Sergio Pettis defeated Horiguchi with a spectacular "fake move".
Sergio Pettis is the younger brother of Anthony Pettis - a fighter born in 1987 who is ranked 22nd in the list of the best MMA fighters according to Tapology. Sergio Pettis competed in the UFC before moving to the Bellator MMA system. He won the "bantamweight" championship (52-56 kg) and successfully defended this title twice.
Like his brother, Sergio Pettis is strong in taekwondo-style moves combined with boxing. Sergio Pettis' most recent career knockout win was against Kyoji Horiguchi (Japan) in 2021.
Horiguchi was born in 1990, nicknamed "Hurricane" which originated from karate. The Japanese boxer was knocked down in the fourth round when he tried to escape his opponent's kick.
Horiguchi then retreated to avoid Sergio Pettis' kick. However, Horiguchi did not expect this to be a series of blows from Sergio Pettis. As Horiguchi ducked back to avoid the kick, he was hit by a punch from the Mexican-American boxer.
Pettis then "played fair" by pulling his hand back, deciding not to add any more punches when he realized his opponent was out of defense. The referee also signaled the victory for the American boxer.
Three years later, Kyoji Horiguchi had a chance to "take revenge" at home. At that time, Sergio Pettis had just moved from Bellator MMA to Rizin - a famous Japanese MMA system. Horiguchi defeated Sergio Pettis by points after 3 rounds.
