Although the number of cases has decreased by 27.8% compared to the same period in 2023, Ho Chi Minh City is facing the risk of increasing cases in the coming time. There has been 1 death recorded.
According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, from week 37 until now, the number of dengue fever cases has been continuously increasing. Notably, the city has recorded one death related to this disease. The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) said that through monitoring risk points, they have discovered many places with mosquito larvae, showing that the risk of dengue fever outbreaks is everywhere, closely linked to people's daily lives.
To prevent the outbreak, HCDC stressed the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding sites and maintaining mosquito bite prevention measures. In addition, dengue vaccination, which has just been licensed for use in Vietnam, is also considered an important part of the disease prevention strategy.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has requested district health centers and ward and commune health stations to investigate and thoroughly handle cases and outbreaks. Units need to closely monitor the epidemic situation to take timely measures to prevent the disease from spreading.
In addition, the People's Committees of districts, wards and communes need to drastically implement activities such as eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, promoting epidemic prevention communication and sanctioning administrative violations in epidemic prevention. The education sector is also required to strengthen epidemic prevention activities in schools, not allowing water containers to breed mosquito larvae, and at the same time, implementing disease surveillance in schools.
When having symptoms of suspected dengue fever, people need to go to a medical facility for diagnosis and appropriate care instructions.
According to data from the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City, the total number of dengue fever cases in the entire Southern region from the beginning of the year to week 45 was 44,980 cases, down more than 26% compared to the same period in 2023. However, with the increase in cases in Ho Chi Minh City, warnings about the risk of an epidemic are still present, requiring drastic action from authorities and public awareness in epidemic prevention.
Along with preventive measures, raising public awareness about dengue fever and how to prevent it is essential. Only when everyone joins hands and acts with determination can we effectively repel the epidemic and protect public health.
