Son Tra Peninsula in Tho Quang Ward (Son Tra District, Da Nang City) has a natural area of about 4,439 hectares, an average altitude of 350m, the highest peak is nearly 700m above sea level. Son Tra Peninsula is known as the "green lung" of the coastal city, a combined area of natural forest ecosystems connected to the sea and urban areas; has elements of nature conservation, biodiversity and environmental landscape with a diverse and rich ecosystem.

Son Tra Peninsula - an attractive destination for tourists when coming to Da Nang

Every day, especially at the beginning of the tourist season like now, tourists flock to visit Son Tra peninsula in great numbers. However, along Hoang Sa road stretching from the coast up the mountainside in Bai Nam, the poetic scenery of mountains, forests, flat sand beaches... seems to be broken by shabby villas and resorts that have been abandoned for many years.

The image of a gloomy "haunted" villa on Son Tra peninsula makes many people regret because the beautiful scenery is "stained".

The most desolate area is Bai Trem with a series of unfinished constructions. According to the reporter's records, for many years, the houses have been abandoned, overgrown with trees, and many items have deteriorated.

Behind the surrounding wall near Hoang Sa Street leading to Son Tra Peninsula is a shabby, unsightly image due to long-abandoned constructions.

Previously, on October 18, 2019, the Government Inspectorate announced the conclusion of the inspection of compliance with legal regulations on land management and use, forest protection and development, environmental protection, and construction for investment projects on Son Tra peninsula.

Overgrown trees and vines make the resort even more desolate.

According to the inspection conclusion, from 2003 to 2013, Da Nang approved and agreed to assign investors to 18 tourism and resort development projects on Son Tra peninsula, with a total area of about 1,222.5 hectares, accommodation scale of 1,920 villas, 24 bungalows and 306 hotel rooms (equivalent to about 5,600 hotel rooms).

Of the total 18 projects on Son Tra peninsula approved by the People's Committee of Da Nang City, 9 projects have a part of the area as natural forest, with a total area of 163.32 hectares, but have not been identified in the plan for forest management and protection.

The People's Committee of Da Nang City approved the planning of the special-use forest of Son Tra Peninsula with an area of 2,591 hectares. Compared to the area submitted by the People's Committee of Da Nang City and appraised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as 3,871 hectares, 1,280 hectares were cut to include this forest area in projects in Son Tra Peninsula, violating regulations.

Along the road to Son Tra peninsula, there are many unfinished tourist areas or only gates, fences... and abandoned for the past decade.

The villa project has just finished the bare frame of the house in the middle of the mountains and forests.

In addition, on Son Tra peninsula, there are 68 illegal constructions for tourism and food services. In March 2023, Son Tra District People's Committee handled 10 cases, and at the same time set out a roadmap to completely handle the remaining 58 constructions from now until 2025.
