Driver's sophistication
"While the motorbike was moving, I asked him to stop so I could buy some bread. Standing in the shop, I turned around and saw him covering the motorbike seat with his hand to keep my seat from getting hot. This was the first time I took a motorbike taxi in Ho Chi Minh City and also the first time in my life I witnessed that scene," said Bach Hong Duc (living in Hanoi).
Quickly, Mr. Duc took out his phone to record the warm moment and posted it on social media.
A male technology car driver used his hand to shade a passenger's seat, causing a "storm on the internet" (Photo cut from clip: Provided by the character).
According to Mr. Duc, he lives in Hanoi but occasionally goes to Ho Chi Minh City due to the nature of his work. The incident happened about 2 or 3 months ago. Recently, he accidentally watched the clip on his phone and decided to post it on social media.
"He is about 50 years old and used to be a traditional motorbike taxi driver. Because life was so difficult, he switched to working as a technology motorbike taxi driver to earn money to support his family," said Mr. Duc.
The clip immediately caused a "storm" online, receiving more than half a million views and thousands of comments praising the male driver.
MN account: "Nowadays, there are many drivers who are very attentive and dedicated. I like to go with older drivers, so that on the way I can listen to them talk about their family and children."
"The drivers, especially the older drivers, are very friendly. They often chat and give me advice like a father or uncle in the family," shared the LR account.
"When I meet drivers like this, I am willing to give them extra money or food and drinks to support them. I really appreciate people doing this job," said NV account.
Please customers by... keeping quiet
Mr. NH (35 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) has more than 8 years of experience as a technology motorbike taxi driver. According to Mr. H., sometimes drivers have to keep quiet throughout the journey to please customers.
Sometimes, some customers always smile and show a happy attitude, but at the end of the trip they leave a "1 star" review, which makes Mr. H. stunned.
"Some customers are in a bad mood or they are introverts, so they will easily get annoyed when they see you asking too many questions. As a driver, we have to talk during the trip so that we and the customers do not get sleepy. But sometimes we have to see the customer's attitude to adapt to the situation, that's why the ride-hailing app has an additional service called "silent ride" for customers in need," Mr. H. confided.
Sharing how to leave a good impression and avoid getting "1 star" reviews on the app, Mr. H. always has to keep his clothes and motorbike clean.
In addition, even if the customer sets the wrong destination on the app compared to the actual destination, the driver must patiently follow it if they do not want to be rated badly on the app.
"This job, in addition to being hard on the sun and rain, also requires understanding the customers. Ultimately, we just want the customers to be happy. Many people intentionally put the wrong destination to get a cheaper fare, then force the driver to go a little further. Even though I know this, I just grit my teeth and endure it," Mr. H. confided.
Having done this job for a long time, Mr. H. said that this is the most difficult time in 8 years.
"There are more and more drivers running, so I get very few rides. Driving 10-12 hours a day only earns 300,000 VND, not including fees, gas, food. I have to find another job to make enough money to cover my living expenses," Mr. H. confided.
Mr. H. said that this income has decreased by 50% compared to 8 years ago. He works hard, but the money he earns is not enough to support his wife and 2 children. Because the family is often short of money, his wife has to send the children away to find work.
Despite the hard work, Mr. H. still tries to stick with it because he is afraid that it will be difficult to find a job now. Although he has encountered many "half-crying, half-laughing" situations in his job as a driver, Mr. H. sometimes feels comforted when there are still many easy-going customers who do not hesitate to give him extra money and ask about him during the trip.
