In the year-end traffic jam situation due to many people traveling, both passengers and drivers face many difficulties even though fares have nearly doubled.

The whole family took turns booking a car but the trip was still canceled.

Mr. Nguyen Tran Khai Duy (31 years old, living in Tan Binh district, Ho Chi Minh City) said that these days, every time he books a ride, he and 1-2 friends at work or relatives at home take turns booking on many different apps, hoping that a driver will accept the ride.

"But sometimes the driver just accepted the trip, then 1-2 minutes later called back to cancel the trip because of traffic jam. I had to rebook and wait," Duy confided.

Like the last ride he booked on Dien Bien Phu Street (District 3). It took him more than 15 minutes to order and reorder on many different apps before he got a driver to accept the trip.

On the map, the app announced that the car was only 1km away from the pick-up point, so Mr. Duy had to wait for more than 20 minutes. But in the end, the driver called to cancel the trip because the car could not move any further.

Mr. Duy had to book the car again from the beginning.

"I also sympathize with the drivers. However, accepting trips and then canceling them continuously like that greatly affects personal work.

Especially when I have important appointments with partners" - Mr. Duy said.

Ms. Kim Ngan (21 years old, student) also complained that booking a ride-hailing service has been very difficult these days.

Because she cannot drive a motorbike yet, motorbike taxis have become her daily means of transportation, with a frequency of about 7 trips/week, depending on the school schedule.

Ms. Ngan also noticed that traffic jams these past few days due to many people traveling at the end of the year have caused the price of each ride to increase, especially during rush hour.

"Previously, a ride from home to school (2.4km) cost about 14,000-18,000 VND using the app's promotion. However, the price has now increased to 24,000-30,000 VND," Ms. Ngan shared.

Please do not rate 1-2 stars, it affects the driver's income.

Mr. Trinh Thanh Son (37 years old, living in Binh Thanh district) has been driving a motorbike taxi for more than two years, and said that traffic jams often occur at the end of the year.

"When I receive a customer's trip, I try to get to the pick-up point quickly. But if I go on roads that are often congested like Xo Viet Nghe Tinh, 3 Thang 2, Cong Hoa... it's hard for me to go fast.

Because I didn't want the customer to wait too long and get a one-star rating, I proactively called the customer to ask them to cancel the trip," said Mr. Son.

Like the day before, because he waited too long, the customer rated him two stars on the app, greatly affecting his income for the day.

"Our drivers' income depends largely on bonus points and customer reviews. If we have a high score on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, we will share a portion of the profits.

"If we cancel the trip and get a 1-2 star rating, we will suffer a loss," said Mr. Son.

So Mr. Son had to turn off the app during peak hours, and try to run an extra 1-2 hours after 10pm every night to make up for it.
