Starting his career in 2007 as a taxi driver, it was not until 2018 that Mr. Do Duc Cuong officially became a bus driver of Cau Buu Bus Enterprise under Hanoi Transport Corporation - Transerco.

Recalling the early days of driving a bus in mixed, crowded traffic conditions, often congested during rush hour, Mr. Cuong said that he was impatient at times.

After a period of training and learning from his colleagues, he gradually understood the slogan: "Human life is above all". Not only knowing how to put the safety of passengers first, he also worked with the ticket sales staff to bring the best quality of service and experience to passengers.

After many years of driving a bus, Mr. Cuong has many memories. About 2 years ago, a resident in Thanh Ha Urban Area had many valuables stolen by a thief who broke into his house. The thief then boarded the bus driven by Mr. Cuong and left behind a bag containing many savings books and important documents, worth more than 1 billion VND in total.

After his shift, he contacted the agency to find a way to return the stolen money to the owner. Two days later, someone came to claim it. They met Mr. Cuong and told him about the theft. Although a large amount of cash was lost, luckily, thanks to him, they were able to find their documents and savings book.

After many years of effort, 2024 was the first year that his unit sent him an application to participate in the National Golden Steering Wheel Award and became one of 60 drivers honored to receive this award. "The award is a motivation for me to continue striving in the upcoming career path," said Mr. Cuong.

The most important thing is to ensure safety.

Also a Transerco bus driver who won the 2024 Golden Steering Wheel Award, Nguyen Tuan Anh (driver of route 15 Gia Lam Bus Station - Pho Ni, Yen Vien Bus Enterprise) said that before becoming a bus driver in 2009, he used to be a long-distance truck driver. At first, he encountered many difficulties because he was not used to driving in crowded inner-city traffic conditions.

Thanks to regular training, driving practice, and learning from his colleagues, his driving skills have gradually improved. Over the years, he has never had a traffic accident.

Mr. Tuan Anh said: "The most important thing is to ensure the safety of passengers and other road users. This is also the first lesson in traffic safety that every Transerco driver is trained in when recruited and always remembers on every passenger journey."

Thanks to his efforts, in 2024, Mr. Tuan Anh not only received the Golden Steering Wheel award at the corporation level, but he also received the National Golden Steering Wheel award for the first time.

Not only drivers, many bus companies under Transerco also won the 2024 Golden Steering Wheel Award, such as: Yen Vien Bus Company, Hanoi BRT Bus Company, Cau Buu Bus Company. In addition, Tan Dat Center also won the Traffic Culture Collective Award.

Mr. Le Anh Nam, Head of Transerco Bus Operations Center, said that for many years now, every year Transerco has a driver who has won the Golden Steering Wheel Award. This is a worthy recognition, as well as a practical encouragement, motivation and spread among the unit's large team of drivers.

"The Golden Steering Wheel is a noble award for drivers and businesses. The fact that drivers and units under Transerco are honored this year will be a great motivation for the entire team of drivers in the corporation," said Mr. Nam.

To achieve this result, in recent times, Transerco has paid special attention to training and coaching to improve service quality, organized specialized training sessions on awareness of compliance with the Road Traffic Law, customer care for more than 4,000 drivers and service staff; issued a code of conduct to be deployed on all buses of the corporation to propagate and educate to raise sense of responsibility and professionalism.

In addition to directly monitoring vehicle and driver operations through journey monitoring devices and cameras on the vehicles, the corporation and its units also have staff directly inspecting the vehicles and routes under the management of the units, closely monitoring the routes and speeds of the buses.

In addition, Transerco also focuses on recruiting and training drivers; strict right from the entrance criteria. To get on the route, drivers go through many stages before being granted a certificate.

To spread the spirit of the Golden Steering Wheel, every two years, Transerco also organizes a "Good and safe driving contest" so that the team of drivers can improve their knowledge, professional skills and techniques. 2024 is also the third consecutive year that the corporation has organized the "Transerco Golden Steering Wheel" awards for long-time employees.

After 20 years of operation and development, Transerco is now operating 71 bus routes including inner-city bus routes and bus routes connecting to communes and towns in Hanoi. The total number of vehicles is currently more than 1,000 vehicles with more than 1,700 drivers. In 2024, Transerco is expected to transport about 3.5 million vehicles with nearly 100 million km.
