On the afternoon of August 29, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association held the Award Ceremony of the 49th Ho Chi Minh City Traditional Art Photography Festival in 2024.
The festival is an important annual event of the photography sector in Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country, an opportunity to introduce to the public typical works of artistic photography, vividly reflecting the achievements of economics, politics, culture, society, national security and defense, and key projects bearing the mark of the renovation period.
In addition to the main Medal Award, this year the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association opened two more themes: The theme of “Freedom” black and white photography named Lam Tan Tai Award (named after the late photographer Lam Tan Tai, the first Secretary General of the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association). The Award is a tribute from the photographers to the person who built the foundation of city photography and ignited the passion for black and white photography; The remaining theme is: Minimalist. These two themes were socialized by the HOPA Association to award the authors.
As a result, the Organizing Committee received nearly 3,000 works from 232 authors from 40 provinces and cities. The Jury evaluated the works for the festival independently online on specialized software and selected 133 works for exhibition (92 free-form photos and 20 black and white photos, 21 minimalist photos).
The Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association organized a public judging and decided to award 11 prizes for the festival’s theme “Freedom” including: 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals and 5 Encouragement Prizes. Of which, the Gold Medal belongs to author Nguyen Kim Hoan (Ninh Thuan) with the work “Future Light”.
