Another Da Nang through the lens of photographer Ong Van Sinh

The art photography exhibition with the theme “Colors of Light” by photographer Ong Van Sinh, officially opened at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum on the evening of December 19, is his fourth solo exhibition, after previous exhibitions including “Cactus Flower”, “The Life of Hats - The Life of People” and “Da Nang - Memories and Present”. Having devoted his whole life to photography, photographer Ong Van Sinh is one of the few artists who still preserves many valuable photographic sources about the land of Quang Nam - Da Nang, especially the city of Da Nang - his hometown.

Photographer Mr. Van Sinh was born in 1954 in Phong Le village, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang city. He was the former Permanent Vice President of the Association of Literature and Arts of Da Nang city, former President of the Association of Photography and Arts of Da Nang city. He has participated in many national and international art photography competitions, many photography exhibitions in Da Nang city, the region and the country.

Photographer Mr. Van Sinh has been a member of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists since 1984. Initially, in 1968, photographer Mr. Van Sinh approached the camera and then worked in a studio in Da Nang city, specializing in taking portraits and documents for the people.

On the day of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country in 1975, photographer Ong Van Sinh worked at the Department of Culture - Sports of Quang Nam - Da Nang (old), taking on the job of taking propaganda and documentary photos. This was also one of the favorable conditions and support for him to come to photography, having the opportunity to travel and penetrate many places to record the landscape, country, people and culture of Quang Nam.

Photographer Mr. Van Sinh has won many awards in local, regional, national and international photo contests. Specifically, in 2011, he won the A prize with the work Hoi An Town Painting voted by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists. In 2004, he was awarded the B prize with the work "Joining Forces" of the Da Nang City Literature and Arts Award. Awarded the A prize with the work "The Sun Has Not Set" in 2004, "Sparkling Han River" B prize, Photo Contest Award jointly organized by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists and the Ministry of Industry. The photo book "The Life of Hats - The Life of People" was awarded the A prize by the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of Da Nang City...

In 1990, he had his first solo exhibition with the theme "Cactus Flowers". In 2011, he released the photo book "The Life of Hats, the Life of People" published by Da Nang Publishing House, including more than 70 works, on the occasion of the 36th anniversary of Da Nang's liberation. In 2023, he published the art photo book "Da Nang, Memories and Present" and organized the art photo exhibition "Da Nang, Memories and Present" to celebrate the 48th anniversary of Da Nang City Liberation Day (March 29, 1975 - March 29, 2023).

With his contributions to the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of Da Nang City and the development of Vietnamese art photography over the years, Photographer Mr. Van Sinh was awarded the title ES VAPA by the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists.

The art photography exhibition with the theme “Colors of Light” is a different perspective of photographer Ong Van Sinh towards his homeland and country. These are works selected by him, distilled from thousands of photos he has taken at the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival over the past 10 years.

With 70 excellent works, which are the emotional ranges of the artist when pressing the shutter, capturing the beauty of the art of light. Each work, through the shutter technique, depicts vivid lines, along with a series of shimmering colors of light on the Han River, beautiful and magical moments, creating artistic images, interestingly associating with the image of Da Nang city.

70 years old and more than 45 years of experience, photographer Ong Van Sinh is still tirelessly on the journey of creating and conquering the beauty of photography art - He is the one who preserves culture, history, and time through unique images of Da Nang city, today.
