Currently, the whole province has only four 4-star hotels, not any 5-star hotels or resorts. Quang Ngai's accommodation services are lacking and weak compared to neighboring provinces.

Severe shortage of luxury hotels and resorts

According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai, the province has about 390 accommodation establishments with about 4,950 rooms. Of these, there are five 4-star hotels and eight 3-star hotels. The rest are small-scale hotels, motels and homestays.

After 35 years of re-establishment, Quang Ngai province still does not have a single 5-star hotel or resort. Many people coming to Quang Ngai are fed up with the poor and insufficient accommodation services in this province.

Mr. Hien (Quang Ngai City) said that he often works with partners in Quang Ngai. After finishing work, he has to invite his partners to Da Nang City or Hoi An City to rest, instead of staying in Quang Ngai.

"There is no place in the whole province that is luxurious enough to receive guests. It's strange to think that even if you want to spend money, you can't," said Mr. Hien.

Similarly, Mr. Tien (Quang Ngai City) said that many times his friends from Hanoi came to Quang Ngai to visit and asked him to help them book a hotel in the center of Quang Ngai City that had a large swimming pool, but they couldn't find one.

"Some hotels with swimming pools were built decades ago and are too old. The rooms are rundown, so my friends say no," said Mr. Tien.

Why is accommodation service in Quang Ngai so bad?

Quang Ngai is an industrial province with many foreign experts coming to work and having high spending needs. They choose to work in Quang Ngai but on weekends go to Da Nang, Hoi An, or Quy Nhon to rest and spend money.

Explaining why the whole province does not have a single 5-star hotel to serve international guests and tourists with high spending power, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai - admitted that accommodation services do not meet the increasing needs of guests.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, accommodation services in Quang Ngai, which were already weak, are now facing additional difficulties due to long-term closures. Facilities are degraded but with limited finances, business owners cannot upgrade or diversify their services.

Regarding the weak investment attraction in tourism compared to neighboring provinces, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism "blamed" the COVID-19 pandemic, so attracting investors to survey and invest in tourism projects in the province was not much. Some investors proposed projects but had difficulty accessing land or slow implementation due to financial capacity...

"These factors have led to the accommodation infrastructure in Quang Ngai being limited, not diverse, and not meeting the needs of organizing large-scale and national events and activities. In addition, the province has not had preferential policies to attract investment in this field," Mr. Dung informed.

According to the forecast of Quang Ngai tourism industry, the number of tourists and business travelers to Quang Ngai will continue to increase in the coming time. To solve the problem of "poor" services, the province needs to strengthen investment promotion activities for high-end accommodation complex projects, with international brands, especially 3-5 star hotels capable of organizing large-scale, national conferences.
