The above request was made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a working session with leaders of Ca Mau province on the afternoon of December 9, aiming to remove difficulties and bottlenecks in the locality.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister commended and highly appreciated the efforts of the Party Committee, government, army and people of Ca Mau province for the outstanding results in the past time. At the same time, he requested Ca Mau to fully exploit the unique potential, outstanding opportunities and competitive advantages of the locality, focusing on three main contents: developing renewable energy, expanding the gas - electricity - fertilizer industrial park; developing tourism based on people, culture, nature, and the brand of the Southern Cape; developing the aquaculture and seafood processing industry, especially shrimp.

The Prime Minister requested the province to further promote transportation development, specifically expanding Ca Mau airport, quickly building highways and implementing inland waterways, and studying maritime projects through the Hon Khoai port project.

"The main difficulty of Ca Mau province is transportation, we will gradually overcome it. Meanwhile, the province must promote the spirit of self-reliance, not rely on others, and develop from its own hands, brains, land, and seascape," Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized.

The Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and branches to research and advise competent authorities to issue investment priority mechanisms, especially in allocating capital to provinces with difficult terrain and geological conditions and characteristics, including Ca Mau; report to the Prime Minister in December 2023 to have solutions to allocate appropriate public investment capital in 2024 and prepare for the next medium-term period.

Regarding the upgrading and expansion of National Highway 1 and Ho Chi Minh Road through Ca Mau, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport to preside over and coordinate with the State Capital Management Committee, relevant agencies and the province to urgently study and report to the Prime Minister on the capital arrangement and balance plan in December 2023.

In response to the proposal of Ca Mau province on upgrading the airport, Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Airports Corporation, said that through research, the investment in expanding Ca Mau airport to accommodate A321 and Boeing 777 aircraft is completely feasible and can be implemented.

Mr. Lai Xuan Thanh also proposed that the Prime Minister allow both planning adjustments and investment preparation work, striving to start construction from the second quarter of 2024 to the beginning of the third quarter of 2024.

Ca Mau is located in the Mekong Delta, covering an area of ​​over 5,300 ^km2 , bordering the sea on three sides with a coastline of 254 km, a large fishing ground of about 80,000 ^km2 , rich aquatic resources; aquaculture area of ​​over 300,000 hectares. Ca Mau province has the largest shrimp output in the country, with an export turnover of over 1 billion USD per year, mainly seafood exports.
