If eaten incorrectly, they can cause adverse effects, affecting the digestive system and overall health.

According to the recommendations of the Department of Food Safety, Ministry of Health, fruits should not be eaten on an empty stomach:

Bananas: should not be eaten on an empty stomach because bananas contain a lot of magnesium. Eating on an empty stomach can suddenly increase the amount of magnesium in the blood, causing cardiovascular imbalance and affecting the digestive system. Leading to bloating, nausea, and heart rhythm disturbances in sensitive people.

Oranges, tangerines, grapefruits (citrus fruits) : should not be eaten when hungry because they contain a lot of citric acid, which can stimulate the stomach to secrete more acid, causing a feeling of hunger, heartburn, and even stomach ulcers if consumed regularly.

Tomatoes : should not be eaten when hungry because tomatoes contain a lot of pectin and tannin, when exposed to stomach acid they will easily precipitate, causing indigestion, stomach pain, and more seriously, can create stones in the stomach.

Soursop (custard apple) : eating it on an empty stomach can cause bloating, due to its high sugar content and easy fermentation without other foods, causing bloating and discomfort.

Experts recommend eating fruit only 30 minutes - 1 hour after breakfast. Because at this time the stomach already has food, helping to absorb nutrients in the fruit well without irritating the stomach lining.

Prioritize light fruits such as apples, pears, watermelons, papayas, kiwis - those that are low in acid and easy to digest. In addition, you should not eat too much fruit on an empty stomach, even if it is a benign fruit, if you eat too much on an empty stomach, it can cause bad digestive reactions.

Experts recommend that although fruits are very nutritious, the timing of eating them is equally important. Avoid eating fruits that are high in acid, tannins or sugar on an empty stomach to protect your stomach and avoid unwanted digestive problems.
