Mr. Hoang Dao Cuong - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the Ministry has directed the Department of Sports and Physical Training to urgently check and verify information reported by the press about the incident in the national gymnastics team.
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong stated the conclusion about the case of athlete Pham Nhu Phuong being dismissed from the national team.
" The Department of Sports and Physical Training's decision to remove athlete Pham Nhu Phuong from the national team is in accordance with the procedure. The reason is that the coach did not report the athlete's wish to go abroad or send his family's commitment. Because of the lack of notification, the Department temporarily did not concentrate the athlete on the national team due to his absence ," said Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong.
" However, according to the feedback, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will ask the Department of Sports and Physical Training to invite athletes to work to see their wishes and professional situation ," the Deputy Minister added.

Regarding the matter of coach Nguyen Thuy Duong - directly in charge of athlete Pham Nhu Phuong in both the national team and the Hanoi unit - collecting and cutting bonuses and hot money, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong said that the Department of Sports and Physical Training has clearly verified this matter.
" The fact that the coach collects 10% of the bonus, 30-50% of the bonus from the athlete is against the regulations. This is done by the coach, and the national team's coaching staff does not collect any money. This coach is under the management of the Hanoi unit and the Ministry will send a document to the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports to request clarification on the money collection and the coach's responsibility ," Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong shared.
Still related to Pham Nhu Phuong, this athlete accused the coach of the national team of overstating his wages. Specifically, according to this athlete, although they did not practice on Sunday, the gymnastics team members still shared the wages for "extra practice".
Overtime training wages are 540,000 VND/day, athletes receive half, the rest is divided into funds and spent on some expenses. According to the initial explanation, this money is used for internal and external affairs, buying more medical supplies, and training supplies.
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong assessed: " This is a complicated matter involving many departments, so there must be a verification and re-inspection process.
However, there are some pieces of information that can be provided. One is that the national gymnastics team organizes extra training on Sundays and holidays when performing important international tasks. Second, the gymnastics team - both coaches and athletes - organizes a collection of money for general activities and the person who collects it is the head coach.
Therefore, there are some tasks that need to be done immediately. The Hanoi National Sports Training Center needs to re-check the timekeeping process of the teams and the extra training days, the coaching staff needs to report the lesson plans and curriculum for these extra training days, the number of athletes participating in training and rest, the coaching staff needs to report and explain the revenues as reported in the press .
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed that these are things that must be done clearly. Based on specific data, this must be done immediately but still needs time to verify. After completion, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will send information to the press, in the spirit of the most transparent and clear information, including strict handling and giving forms of punishment. The level of punishment is based on regulations.
