Ministry of Culture: There is no such thing as an artist failing to get a title due to… wrong documents

Recently, Meritorious Artist Do Ky has sent a petition to the competent authorities including: Ministry of Public Security, Central Emulation and Reward Committee, Department of Organization and Personnel (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism)... about the request to review his title of People's Artist being stopped.

This decision comes from the fact that he received a notice of the results of the appraisal of the application for the title of People's Artist in the 10th round of awarding the titles of Meritorious Artist and People's Artist.

This announcement clearly states: "This file was submitted by the Central Emulation and Reward Committee to the Prime Minister for temporary retention due to: The individual has a petition and opinion from the Ministry of Public Security; does not meet the conditions and standards to propose the 10th People's Artist title. The Department of Performing Arts sends information to Meritorious Artist Pham Do Ky for information" .

After receiving this notice, Mr. Do Ky posted the information on his Facebook.

Afterwards, a staff member from the Department of Organization and Personnel (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) contacted him by phone, saying "please sympathize and remove the image of the notice from the Department of Performing Arts on Facebook because your application for the title of People's Artist was mixed in with the files of those who had opinions from the Police."

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy - Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism - said that according to the report of the Department of Organization and Personnel, there was no confusion in the documents as reported.

Ms. Thuy also added that if reporters need to learn more specifically, they can send a request to the Office of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for coordination.

In recent years, according to tradition, the awarding of the title of Meritorious Artist and People's Artist must go through 4 councils: Grassroots Council; Provincial, City and Ministry Council; Specialized Council and State Council.

A nomination file must undergo the evaluation of more than 40 members of 4 Selection Boards from all regions and many art fields. Because of this strictness, it is difficult to "run" the application.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, People's Artist Quoc Tri said that he was one of the members of the State Council that proposed the awarding of the title of Meritorious Artist and People's Artist for the 10th time.

He affirmed that the members of the Council work transparently, professionally and independently. The Council reviews based on votes, and those who meet the requirements will have their files approved for submission to a higher level.

Artists who have suggestions or questions should send complaints to competent authorities for clarification," People's Artist Quoc Tri informed.

The 10th round of awarding the titles of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist was first applied according to Decree No. 40/2021/ND-CP amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 89/2014/ND-CP on awarding the titles of People's Artist and Meritorious Artist.

Accordingly, to achieve the title of Meritorious Artist and People's Artist, in addition to the criteria of years of work, awards... councils at all levels also discuss and evaluate special cases to submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.
