On the afternoon of January 25, at a regular press conference, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said that at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Laos Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son will attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat (AMM Retreat) in Luang Prabang, Laos from January 28-29. This conference is a kick-off activity for Laos' 2024 ASEAN Chairmanship with the theme "ASEAN: Promoting Connectivity and Resilience".
“This AMM Retreat is an opportunity for ASEAN countries to agree on major priority directions for ASEAN cooperation throughout 2024 and strengthen ASEAN's external relations, while also exchanging and promoting ASEAN's common approach to regional and international issues,” said Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
On this occasion, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will also have a number of bilateral meetings within the framework of the AMM Retreat.
Immediately after attending the AMM Retreat in Luang Prabang, Laos, from January 31 to February 2, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will attend the 24th ASEAN-EU Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the 3rd Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum, and then visit and work in the Kingdom of Belgium.
At the 24th ASEAN-EU Foreign Ministers' Meeting, ASEAN and the EU will review their cooperation relations, discuss measures to enhance cooperation in the coming time, and especially implement the results of the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit in 2022 and discuss international and regional issues of mutual concern.
"Participating in the 3rd Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum is an opportunity for Vietnam to strongly promote relations with the EU and its member countries, share and learn international experiences in areas where both sides have strengths and are of mutual interest, contributing to mobilizing resources to realize Vietnam's development goals, including green growth and response to climate change," said Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang.
The working visit of Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son to the Kingdom of Belgium aims to continue implementing the results achieved during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Belgium in December 2022 as well as promoting bilateral relations.
During the working trip, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son is expected to hold talks with the Belgian Foreign Minister as well as attend many other important activities.
