Attending the meeting were representatives of the Ministry of Public Security; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Planning and Investment; Ministry of Industry and Trade; Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and specialized agencies under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh wished to listen to opinions from leaders of ministries and branches as well as in-depth contributions from scientists and experts, together assessing the current situation and potential to give opinions, and at the same time build breakthroughs in exploiting and using marine space for economic, social and environmental activities during the planning period.
The goal is to create a foundation for effective management of resource exploitation and use, environmental protection, and conservation of marine ecosystems; ensure national defense and security; contribute to the formation of strong marine economic sectors, create more livelihoods for people, and realize the goal of making Vietnam a strong maritime nation, rich from the sea.
At the meeting, leaders of ministries, branches as well as scientists with in-depth experience in marine research and planning such as Prof. Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, Prof. Dr. Tran Nghi, Prof. Dr. Cao Huu Huan, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truc Le, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen An Thinh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Quan together pointed out key issues that need to be solved such as building institutional policies to implement synchronous and unified planning; developing culture and society from the sea; protecting the environment for sustainable development of the marine and island economy; developing resources to implement planning...
Delegates focused on discussing the breakthroughs of the Plan such as ensuring socio-economic development combined with maintaining national defense and security, rationally exploiting mineral resources, protecting the marine ecological environment and responding to climate change; Building a multi-purpose, synchronous and modern infrastructure system on coastal and island areas, creating a foundation to attract resources and promote the development of sustainable marine economic sectors; Creating conditions for investigation, survey and assessment of potential and advantages to develop new marine economic sectors...
Concluding the meeting, Minister Dang Quoc Khanh directed specialized units to absorb the opinions of delegates to continue perfecting the National Marine Spatial Planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2045, aiming at the goal of all Vietnamese sea areas being effectively managed and sustainably used in space, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development and national defense and security, in accordance with natural conditions, socio-economics, resilience, environmental carrying capacity, marine and island ecosystems, completing the goal of making Vietnam a rich and strong maritime nation.
