Ms. Phan Thi Hai Yen's husband - Mr. Pham Quang Khai (Khanh Hau ward, Tan An city) always accompanies her in the process of "leaving the city to return to the countryside" to start a business.

Journey of a Thousand Miles...

Working for a real estate corporation for nearly 7 years with a stable income, Ms. Phan Thi Hai Yen (born in 1993, residing in Khanh Hau ward, Tan An city) decided to " leave the city and return to the countryside ", shake off the hustle and bustle of the city, and fully enjoy the peaceful moments.

“My husband and I used the money we saved while working to buy a plot of land of nearly 2,000 square meters in 2021 to build a garden. My husband and I do all the gardening work ourselves. Currently, the garden has many popular vegetables, tubers, and fruits such as water spinach, bananas, mangoes, etc., as well as rare and difficult-to-grow varieties such as South American mulberry, avocado, strawberry, etc. When I was living in Ho Chi Minh City, I was often under pressure because I worked 8 hours a day, but since returning to my hometown, sometimes I work in the garden for 9-10 hours without getting tired,” Yen confided.

At first, she just wanted to enjoy the countryside and grow clean food for her family. But then, her love for her small garden urged her to share her daily moments and the fruits of her labor on social platforms. Yen's TikTok channel, The Girl Who Loves Gardening, quickly attracted the attention of the online community thanks to many simple and genuine videos.

On average, she produces about 3-4 videos per week. To date, her TikTok channel has nearly 90,000 followers, with each video receiving tens of thousands, even millions of views.

Since "leaving the city to return to the countryside", Ms. Phan Thi Hai Yen (Khanh Hau ward, Tan An city) feels more peaceful and loves life more.

In addition to growing for her family, she also sells some products such as strawberry shoots and strange sugarcane varieties because many people ask to buy them. She also takes advantage of her hometown to sell clean products, spreading the values of green and healthy living.

"Currently, I sell pure rice bran, serving the needs of beauty and exfoliation. I use 100% rice bran without rice flour mixed in, taken directly from large rice granaries and mills in the province. The special feature of this product is that it uses the finest bran after peeling the rice grains," said Ms. Yen.

After many years of operation, Ms. Yen's online rice bran store has received many positive feedbacks from customers. In her spare time, she also does a part-time job teaching cooking to foreigners; reviews quality agricultural products and posts them on her personal TikTok channel (usually around 1-3 million/review clip).

She does not accept mass reviews but often carefully examines the quality of the products so viewers can feel secure in buying and using them and have positive reviews. Although she has "left the city to return to the countryside", she still works hard, thanks to which her income is relatively stable, fluctuating around 10-15 million VND/month.

“In terms of health and spirit, I feel very comfortable and relaxed when living close to nature. My husband and I support each other a lot in taking care of the garden. Although it is hard work in the sun and rain, we feel at peace and each day is meaningful. At first, we had financial difficulties when we gave up our stable jobs in the city to return to the countryside, but we had prepared in advance so we were not too “overwhelmed” and quickly adapted,” Yen added.

... Start with one step

From Chau Thanh district, Dong Thap province, 9X guy Le Nguyen Thanh Loc traveled to Long An province to build a career with a rose garden of many varieties. Before becoming the owner of a rose garden of nearly 1,000m², Mr. Loc had many years of experience working in the financial sector in Long An province. His job mainly revolved around numbers and the pressure of meeting targets made him feel that it was no longer suitable.

“I feel like I’m no longer passionate about finance. I want to find a job where I can be creative and close to nature,” Loc shared.

Mr. Le Nguyen Thanh Loc (from Dong Thap province) takes care of more than 100 different varieties of roses.

Thinking is doing, he used the accumulated capital to pursue his long-cherished passion for growing roses. In the early days of starting his business , Mr. Loc encountered many difficulties because he had to figure out and learn the techniques of growing and caring for roses to suit the climate of the South. Fortunately, he received enthusiastic help from long-time gardeners in the area and successfully applied it in practice.

Regarding start-up capital, Mr. Loc said that he initially spent only about 1 million VND to buy small rose plants. After that, he continued to invest about 10 million VND for the first shipment. Although he sometimes failed due to harsh weather, he was not discouraged and considered them valuable lessons to perfect his gardening skills.

After a period of persistent learning and practice, Mr. Loc built a garden of about 1,000m² to grow nearly 100 varieties of roses (old Sapa roses, Lafont, Soeur, RedEden,...) and many other ornamental plants such as rosemary, yellow lemon, Thai pomegranate, Indian pomegranate, purple pomegranate, woody grapes, honey passion fruit,...

Currently, his average income ranges from 10 to 20 million VND/month, depending on sales. In addition, he also grows some vegetables and fruits to provide for his family, saving on living expenses.

Sharing about the changes after “leaving the city to return to the countryside”, Mr. Loc confided: “I proactively arrange my time, no longer feel pressured like when I was working in an office. I also spend more time on personal hobbies such as cooking, listening to music and taking care of pets”.

Revealing his experience of "leaving the city to return to the countryside" to start a successful business, he encourages young people to be well prepared financially and mentally, and avoid being hasty. In addition, young people can also learn from the experiences of those who have gone before to avoid unnecessary mistakes.

The story of Ms. Hai Yen or Mr. Thanh Loc is proof that success comes not only from urban jobs but also from simple passions, perseverance and relentless efforts./.
