The Ministry of Transport has just issued an official dispatch requesting the Departments of Transport of provinces and cities to strengthen inspection, review, adjustment and supplement the road sign system to ensure traffic order and safety.
As VietNamNet has reported, on some national highways, or in the capital Hanoi, there is a "chaotic" situation of traffic signs. Many signs are hung behind bushes and electric poles; the content is difficult to understand, "puzzling" traffic participants, potentially causing many accidents.
Faced with this reality, the Ministry of Transport has just issued a telegram requesting the departments and agencies of transport of provinces and cities; project management boards; Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC)... to strengthen inspection, review, adjustment and supplementation of the road signal system to ensure traffic order and safety.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport requires the Vietnam Road Administration and the Departments of Transport to review, adjust, and supplement road signs, and regularly maintain road signs on exploited routes under their management, ensuring that road signs are arranged reasonably, scientifically, easily recognizable, and in accordance with traffic organization plans.
At the same time, these units need to develop a plan to replace signals on operating roads according to the transition route.
"The Vietnam Road Administration and the Departments of Transport shall guide, inspect, and urge agencies, organizations, investors, and enterprises assigned by the State to invest in the construction, business, and exploitation of road works to implement the above contents," the Ministry of Transport requested.
For VEC and BOT investors, the Ministry of Transport requires the implementation of reviewing, adjusting, supplementing, and maintaining road signs on routes under management and exploitation according to regulations.
Also related to this issue, previously, the Vietnam Road Administration also requested the Departments of Transport, road management areas, VEC, investors, and BOT project enterprises to review, repair, supplement, and replace road signs on roads according to regulations.
In addition, the Department of Roads also requires units to detect and immediately fix any shortcomings and damage to the road signaling system on routes and constructions, at intersections, school locations, road sections with steep slopes, narrow curves, limited visibility, etc.
