“The BMW Concept Skytop is a unique design, in the tradition of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. It combines driving dynamics with the highest level of luxury, and is comparable to its legendary predecessors such as the BMW Z8 or the BMW 503,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Director of Design at BMW Group.
The Skytop Concept features slim taillights and a shark-nose front end, inspired by the roadsters of the early 2000s. In particular, the hood has large air intakes and a unique flat rear end, reminiscent of the design of the BMW 503 from the late 1950s.
At first glance, it might make many people think of an improved 8 Series model thanks to similar proportions and a powerful engine. The car is equipped with a 4.4-liter V8 engine, 617 horsepower from the M8 Competition. Although BMW has not provided detailed performance specifications, it is likely that the Skytop Concept will also use an 8-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, similar to the M8 Competition.
Inside, the Skytop Concept continues to assert luxury with a dashboard design similar to the 8 Series. The digital gauge cluster, infotainment screen, center console, and gearshift cluster are all present. Leather seats, a finely crafted steering wheel, and details such as custom door panels and electric folding windows create a perfect interior space.
The Skytop Concept's hood is designed in two pieces that can be manually removed and stored in the trunk area, increasing convenience for the user.
