In recent times, the agricultural sector of Binh Duong province has gradually transformed from agricultural production to agricultural economy; continuing to restructure towards the development of ecological agriculture, organic agriculture, and circular agriculture with traceability of planting area codes. The agricultural sector and localities of the province have proactively reviewed and converted ineffective crop areas to crops with higher economic value, suitable to the conditions of each region, introduced new varieties with high productivity and quality into production, developed high-tech agriculture, linked production and product consumption according to the value chain.

Binh Duong province aims to increase the production value of the agricultural sector by 2.5-3% per year by 2025. In particular, the province strives to increase the proportion of high-tech agricultural production value to over 30%. To realize this goal, the province has many more support policies, especially in accessing preferential loans. In addition, technology transfer and training of farmers in the application of scientific and technical advances are also promoted.

According to Mr. Pham Van Bong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Duong province, the department is actively supporting farmers to apply high technology to agricultural production. Accordingly, with the support of technology such as automatic irrigation systems, smart greenhouses and production management software, the agricultural sector of Binh Duong province has created a green revolution, turning traditional fields into modern farms.

Smart and sustainable agriculture development helps farmers reach and meet consumer tastes

Binh Duong has the second largest number of agricultural farms in the Southeast and the fifth in the country. Up to now, the whole province has more than 5,760 hectares of high-tech farming land. The livestock sector has also changed positively towards concentration and large scale, with the proportion of farm livestock accounting for over 90% of the total livestock and poultry herd in the province. The development of high-tech agriculture, clean agriculture, and organic agricultural products according to Organic, VietGAP, and GlobalGAP standards is an inevitable direction in agricultural production, changing the face and raising the level of agricultural development in Binh Duong.

"To adapt well to climate change, market fluctuations and consumer trends, the goal of Binh Duong's agricultural sector is to create more valuable products by using fewer inputs, less labor and taking advantage of scientific and technological achievements, aiming for sustainable development from a technical perspective to production organization," Mr. Pham Van Bong affirmed.

Linking 6 "houses" to create agricultural value chain

To support farmers in production as well as to concretize policies that directly affect the lives and production of the agricultural sector, the Farmers' Association of Binh Duong province has proposed a breakthrough program, cooperating with 6 parties: the State, farmers, enterprises, banks, scientists, and distributors.

Mr. Do Ngoc Huy, Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Binh Duong province, said that the 6-house cooperation program will create a connection between the houses. In which, the role, function and task of each house will be promoted; together, supporting each other to reach the finish line effectively; concretizing policies that directly affect the lives, production and business of farmers.

The cooperation program will also help farmers increase the application of advanced technologies and digital technology in agricultural production, improve economic efficiency; serve the sustainable development of the agricultural sector in Binh Duong province.

Binh Duong Farmers' Association signed a cooperation agreement with Felix.store to build an e-commerce channel for members, business households, cooperatives, enterprises and expand the market for agricultural products of the province. This is an e-commerce platform operating under the B2B model for Vietnamese agricultural products. This platform currently trades with more than 91,000 accounts, 400 stores and more than 10,000 products.

In addition, Thu Dau Mot University cooperates with the Provincial Farmers' Association to carry out research projects on cultivation techniques to increase productivity and quality of agricultural products, preserve and process agricultural products after harvest to reduce loss, improve quality and value and increase competitiveness for Binh Duong agricultural products in domestic and foreign markets...

Speaking more about the effectiveness of the cooperation program, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dinh, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, said that the issue of linkage and cooperation in production and business is of great concern to the Party, the State, and all levels of the Farmers’ Union. Linking and cooperating in production according to the value chain is a trend and a requirement in the development process.

With the 6-house cooperation program, many policies and mechanisms have been issued to strengthen economic links, agricultural and rural investment, and create conditions for entities to participate in alliance and association models. This is also the process to create a cohesive, circular chain; following the current trend in the agricultural production sector of market demand.

Mr. Pham Van Bong said that the province has formed a number of high-tech agricultural zones, such as: An Thai high-tech agricultural zone (Phu Giao district), Tien Hung high-tech agricultural zone (Bac Tan Uyen district), high-tech agricultural zones in Tan Hiep commune, Phuoc Sang commune (Phu Giao district)...

“The Department is coordinating with relevant units to speed up the disbursement process, supporting farmers and farms to access loans of about VND1,500 billion quickly and conveniently. At the same time, Binh Duong province has had preferential policies to attract and encourage the establishment of high-tech agricultural enterprises and the formation of high-tech agricultural zones,” Mr. Bong affirmed.
