Tran Thanh's movie Mai is receiving a lot of attention as it will appear in the 2024 Tet movie race. This is a project that Tran Thanh has been nurturing for 2 years, the script was completed before Mrs. Nu's House.

However, Tran Thanh revealed that Mai has many differences compared to the movie Mrs. Nu's House , typically the balance between humorous, optimistic and emotional, romantic elements along with a realistic, thorny story about life.

The male director affirmed: “My films never lack inner acting, because I really like to exploit human psychology, but there is also no lack of humor. I want Tet films to also make the audience breathe easier, like spices in life. I don’t know what genre to call this film, but I believe that the audience will experience all the colors.”

In response to the question "Are you afraid that your new film will be affected because Tran Thanh's appearance in any film will cause controversy?", Tran Thanh said: "There is controversy everywhere and everyone has controversy, it's just a matter of how much or how little, and whether it is shown or hidden. No one is born to please everyone.

I think that besides the controversy, to have a Tran Thanh like today, there is definitely a number of audiences who still love him. I cannot please everyone. What I can do is change every day, try harder. When the audience sees the good things I do, maybe they will change their minds about Tran Thanh."

Tran Thanh returns to the Tet movie race.

Talking about the Lunar New Year film race in 2024, Tran Thanh affirmed that all filmmakers want to be released in theaters to welcome audiences, so he doesn't think he is competing with anyone.

"I think we just went to the theater together. Why do people keep using the word "confrontation" when movies are released on the same day? There are many movies that have won together when released at the same time. Last year, "The Lady's House" and other Vietnamese movies released at the same time all had good revenue. Those who received a lot of support from the audience should be thanked, those who didn't should try harder next time. So I think we shouldn't use the word "confrontation" in this case.

As for the fact that the movies coincidentally have the same theme - loving older women, maybe this is a trend because Mai wrote the script 2 years ago," Tran Thanh affirmed.

Tuan Tran and Phuong Anh Dao are the two main actors of "Mai".

Answering the question "Does the movie Mai have too many swear words like Mrs. Nu's House?", director Tran Thanh affirmed that it was just loud words to reflect the true life of the characters in the movie.

He said: "Mrs. Nu's house shows the life and psychology of street vendors, forgetting to share with their children. So I have to recreate their lives, bringing the truth into the film. Watching a film means watching the truth, watching only lies is not a film. Mai is completely different and will have a very poetic and romantic tone."

In addition, Tran Thanh also revealed the budget for this film project. He said that the film should not have needed that much money, but because of his "personality" of wanting to spend on more scenes, more filming days, better cameras, paying actors... the amount he had to spend was about 50 billion VND.

In addition to being the director, Tran Thanh will also take on a small role in the film. He said that his role will be different from Phu Nhuan in the film Nha Ba Nu , as well as the role of Mr. Ba Sang in Bo Gia.

Uyen An, Tran Thanh's younger sister and the main actress of Mrs. Nu's House, also joined this project with a notable role.

Tran Thanh affirmed: “I do not give any favoritism to Uyen An. Tran Thanh's younger sister did not have a role in the film from the beginning, Uyen An won this role herself based on her acting ability after the casting.”

The movie Mai will premiere on February 10, 2024 (the first day of Lunar New Year 2024). The cast of the movie includes Phuong Anh Dao, Tuan Tran, Hong Dao, Uyen An, Kha Nhu, People's Artist Ngoc Giau, Tran Thanh, People's Artist Viet Anh... The movie will compete with Meet the Boss Again (directed by Nhat Trung) with 2 projects premiering on the same day.
