Hidden in Ma Da forest, thousands of bougainvillea trees on the 25km long road compete to show off their colors, dyeing the space filled with green trees.

On the car driving into Ma Da forest in Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve (Vinh Cuu district, Dong Nai province), Mr. Tran Dinh Hung - Head of the Forest Protection Department of the reserve pointed to Ma Da and said, it is a vast primeval forest, known as the "green lung" of the Southeast region.
After driving a few kilometers, a row of bougainvillea flowers appeared along the road, blooming in Hue purple. Mr. Hung boasted that this flower road was 25km long, running deep into the primeval forest, leading to 3 national relic sites. Then, he exclaimed: "The blooming season is so beautiful, everyone who passes by is fascinated."
The road stretches 25km with about 12,000 bougainvillea trees. |
Having been attached to the forest here for more than 30 years and being one of the first people to plant bougainvillea trees on this road, he said that this was the idea of Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve.
The flowers were planted in 2008, with the desire to create a highlight on the road leading to 3 national relic sites, and at the same time create a landscape to "liberate" the potential of eco-tourism in the great forest.
“Earlier this year, the province approved the eco-tourism, resort and entertainment project of Dong Nai Cultural Nature Reserve for the period 2021-2030, with a total investment of VND991 billion,” he boasted.

Initially, the reserve planted both frangipani and bougainvillea. But after a while, bougainvillea grew well and bloomed because it could withstand the dry weather and was suitable for the soil of the area, so the reserve chose it as the main plant along the road.
Mr. Hung revealed that the number of bougainvillea here increases every year. Up to now, the whole road has about 12,000 trees, many of which are 15-16 years old. There are about 6,000-7,000 frangipani trees left.
Stopping the car on the slope, Mr. Hung said that bougainvillea blooms all year round. Rain or shine, the flowers are in full bloom. However, the most beautiful and blooming season is late spring and early summer.

Tourists and passersby love to take pictures on this flower road. Currently, bougainvillea is only planted on one side of the road. On the other side, the reserve plans to plant Cassia fistula trees. The trees bloom beautifully like Japanese cherry blossoms.
“In the forest, when creating a landscape, you also have to calculate what kind of flowers to plant. The royal poinciana tree not only creates a beautiful landscape, but is also a native tree available in the natural forest,” Mr. Hung shared.
According to locals, the best time to visit the bougainvillea road is from April to June. This is when the bougainvillea flowers bloom, showing off their brilliant colors, creating an extremely beautiful scene.
Mr. Tran Duc Son (a resident of Ma Da commune, Vinh Cuu district) said that usually before Tet, households and conservation area forces often clean up the grass along the road to prepare for the most beautiful bougainvillea season.
This bougainvillea road is special because it is located in the Ma Da forest area, so the surrounding scenery is very wild and poetic. On the way into the forest, visitors will feel like they are lost in another world, completely separate from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Coming here, experiencing the bougainvillea path through the forest, admiring the blooming flowers and enjoying the fresh air, visitors will feel the unique beauty of this place. At the same time, discover the mysteries in the Ma Da primeval forest.
This place is famous for its diverse and rich ecosystem and many beautiful landscapes. When coming here, visitors can explore the pristine beauty of the forest and admire the butterflies. People can also participate in other activities such as camping, group games...
