According to information from the Tropical Disease Center (Bach Mai Hospital), recently the Center has received many severe cases of chickenpox, requiring hospitalization, of which 2 cases have died.

Doctor Do Duy Cuong - Director of the Center for Tropical Diseases said: Currently, chickenpox cases are quite complicated. In the past month, there have been deaths, although the patient had no underlying disease.

Chickenpox is common in children because there is no vaccination, so there is no immunity and it is transmitted through the respiratory tract. Many people still think that only children get chickenpox, so they are very subjective, leading to complications that are difficult to control.

Patients with severe symptoms have underlying diseases such as cancer, pneumonia, encephalitis, liver failure, are in a state of multiple organ failure, or are taking drugs such as Corticoids, immunosuppressants to treat gout, lung, and kidney diseases.

Especially some patients hospitalized with special conditions or pregnant women. These are special subjects when infected, the virus will flare up and cause serious damage.

Patients can die if not detected and treated promptly. Some cases have complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, or liver failure, even multiple organ failure requiring dialysis.

The Center has just admitted a 29-year-old male patient from Bac Ninh. According to his family, he showed signs of chickenpox, but after going to the doctor, he only took medicine and went home. Two days later, he had more difficulty breathing.

Doctor Do Duy Cuong said: The patient was transferred to the Tropical Disease Center - Bach Mai Hospital in a state of low red blood cells, difficulty breathing, requiring oxygen support, skin damage all over the body, blisters, and fever.

This is a case of severe chickenpox, with complications, liver failure, respiratory failure, and signs of damage. The patient has a history of gout. The patient is currently being treated with antiviral drugs, intravenous infusion, intensive care, etc.

Doctor Cuong recommends: People should get vaccinated against chickenpox, should not be subjective and think "chickenpox only occurs in children, it will go away after a few days".

Adults must also be aware of disease prevention. When seeing sick children or people around them, they must wear masks and limit contact because the disease is transmitted through the respiratory tract.

Adults with chickenpox often have more severe complications because they often have underlying diseases and are often diagnosed later or misdiagnosed compared to other diseases. Absolutely do not be subjective to limit complications caused by chickenpox.
