Baby An 'Southern Forest Land' auditions for movie 'Kaleidoscope'

Hao Khang - plays An in "Southern Forest Land" - auditioned for the role of Quy Rom for the movie version of "Kaleidoscope".

The crew introduced a behind-the-scenes video of Hao Khang's casting, attracting hundreds of thousands of views on social media. When registering his profile, the child star said he was aiming for the role of Quy Rom, and watched some episodes of the TV version of Kaleidoscope to study his acting style, including the scene where the character teaches his best friend Tieu Long.

Despite having rehearsed, Hao Khang was nervous when rehearsing in front of director Vo Thanh Hoa. The actor was encouraged by the crew, who helped analyze the character's psychology. The child star hopes to act in his second movie, after Dat Rung Phuong Nam - released in October 2023.

Hao Khang attracted the attention of the audience after the work of director Nguyen Quang Dung was released, causing a stir with a revenue of 140 billion VND. Coming out of the film, the 14-year-old actor said that he will continue to look for opportunities with difficult roles to satisfy his passion for acting, in addition to studying culture at school.

In addition to Hao Khang, the project has attracted many other young actors to audition, such as Ky Phong (Stork in Southern Forest Land ), Mai Cat Vi, and Bao An. Director Vo Thanh Hoa said the film is in the process of casting the three main characters - Quy Rom, Tieu Long, and Hanh, before choosing the setting and starting filming. He invited actors from the TV version such as Ngoc Trai and Vu Long to sit as casting judges, helping to choose the most suitable faces for the film version.

Vo Thanh Hoa cherished the idea of making the film Kaleidoscope at the end of 2019. He had made many films but had not yet adapted any literary works. When the producer invited him to be the director, Vo Thanh Hoa was moved to accept because this was the first book he had read in his life.

During the script writing process, he met with writer Nguyen Nhat Anh to better understand the work. The writer said that he respected the filmmaker and did not interfere with the idea or the filming process. Vo Thanh Hoa said that he made the film in an independent spirit, with a more contemporary feel than the original story.

In 2004, the TV version adapted by directors Nguyen Minh Chung and Do Phu Hai was aired, creating a fever with audiences of many generations. Actors Ngoc Trai (Quy Rom), Anh Dao (Hanh), Vu Long (Tieu Long) became beloved faces.

Nguyen Nhat Anh's books have been adapted to the screen many times. In 1994, the film Ao trang san truong was released, directed by Le Dan, based on the story Nu sinh. The movie Toi thay hoa vang tren co xanh, directed by Victor Vu, was released in 2015. Nguyen Nhat Anh's work Mat biec was also adapted to the screen by this director in late 2019, earning 180 billion VND in revenue. Once upon a time, there was a love story - directed by Trinh Dinh Le Minh - is expected to be released this year.
