(CLO) 2025 is expected to be an important turning point in the relationship between cinema and tourism in Phu Yen when images of beautiful nature and unique culture spread through cinematic works.
Recently, Phu Yen is a typical example. From a not-so-prominent province, this locality has risen to the top of the PAI rankings in 2024 thanks to breakthrough policies.

Films filmed here have brought about immediate benefits such as revenue from logistics services, accommodation, and labor, to long-term benefits such as creating a strong ripple effect, attracting tourists, and promoting tourism development.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Yen, in 2024, the province welcomed 6 domestic and foreign film crews from the films Once Upon a Time, There Was a Love Story, Kaleidoscope, Sound Across the Ocean, Grave Reform , a documentary film, to the film Love in Vietnam by an Indian film crew.
Mr. Nguyen Le Vu - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Phu Yen said that in recent years, the department and local authorities have always supported film crews from surveying, consulting on settings, to lending props... while supporting hotel rental prices and travel expenses.
Especially after the movie Once Upon a Time, there was a Love Story , the beautiful scenery in Phu Yen once again "captivated" tourists, many people came to the locality to check-in the scenes in the movie.
At the premiere of the film Once Upon a Time There Was a Love Story in Phu Yen, director Trinh Dinh Le Minh shared that he had surveyed many places but stopped at Phu Yen because there were houses and villages with red tiled roofs, intact paint... and the people's lifestyle suitable for the context of the 1990s and 2000s.
"Phu Yen should promote and preserve the advantages of natural film studios from landscape to culture and people. That is what makes it unique and attracts filmmakers," said director Le Minh.
According to experts, Phu Yen needs to better implement the commitments in the PAI index, from licensing procedures, means of transportation, communication, human resources with knowledge of cinema, and even financial resources. In the context of social networks dominating the audience going to the cinema, many film producers are very concerned about capital recovery and profits, so this support is very important.

In particular, Phu Yen is also in the process of building a dossier to be recognized as a National Geopark, aiming to become a Global Geopark recognized by UNESCO. With this title, foreign filmmakers will be more interested in Phu Yen as they have been interested in the Dong Van stone plateau, caves in Quang Binh, Ha Long Bay, etc.
This year, Phu Yen plans to organize a special film conference to propose mechanisms and policies to support costs for film crews, attracting them to the locality to promote the province's tourism to the public.
Previously in December 2024, at the Film Crew Attraction Index and Film Production Environment Forum in Vietnam (organized by the Vietnam Association for the Promotion of Cinema Development in coordination with the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province), Phu Yen was announced as the leading locality in the Film Crew Attraction Index (PAI) rankings in Vietnam.
This is not only thanks to improvements in Phu Yen's support policies and infrastructure, but also because this place has its own unique features that "hold" film crews.
