Promote tourism through social networks

More than 80 km from Kon Tum city, Dak Na commune (Tu Mo Rong district, Kon Tum) is blessed with many beautiful landscapes, with primeval forests, the beautiful Siu Puong princess waterfall, green grass hills, terraced fields and cloud hunting hills... Dak Na commune is also a place to preserve the priceless cultural treasures of the Xo Dang people. These factors have attracted many tourists to visit and experience.

Born and raised in Dak Na commune, Ms. Y Gia Nhi (30 years old, Mo Banh 1 village) understands the natural beauty and people here. The idea of doing tourism came to her 2 years ago, when she saw tourists passing by the village and asking for directions to Siu Puong waterfall. She went online to learn about how to design tours, build promotional channels, connect with travel companies... She also cooperated with local people to set up gong and xoang dance teams, motorbike taxi teams, culinary teams... to serve customers together.

To promote the beauty of her hometown and attract tourists, Nhi often posts pictures of mountains, hills, and waterfalls on social media. On this platform, the beauty of Dak Na is known to many people. Her guests are all nature lovers and passionate about experiences.

There are about 60 people who benefit from linking up with Ms. Nhi to do tourism through gong performances, transporting passengers, preparing food and selling local specialties. "The average income of each tour is 300,000 VND/person. Depending on the season, each month the people have an additional income of 1 - 3 million VND. The people earn money from transporting passengers to the waterfall, serving meals, performing arts... In addition to bringing income to the people, what makes me happiest is that I have contributed to promoting the beauty of tourism and the cultural identity of the locality to tourists from all over the country. I am very happy when the customers I serve connect new groups of customers for me. Just like that, the beautiful scenery of Dak Na becomes more and more known to everyone," said Ms. Nhi.

Introduce to international friends

An ancient village over 300 years old, Kon K'tu (Dak Ro Wa commune, Kon Tum city) lies peacefully on the banks of the poetic Dak Bla river. Born and raised in Kon K'tu, Mr. A Kâm (33 years old) always wants to introduce the beauty of his village to friends at home and abroad.

In 2020, Kon K'Tu was recognized as a community tourism village of Kon Tum. From here, Mr. A Kâm came up with the idea of doing tourism. He borrowed capital from the bank to invest in building a homestay. To gain more experience, he registered with the local government to go on practical training courses on tourism models outside the province. After attending training courses on tourism skills and using the English communication skills he learned at university, he began his journey in tourism.

"At first, many foreigners came to visit the village. Because I knew foreign languages, I took them to visit and introduced the beautiful scenery and traditional customs of the village. After returning home, the guests introduced it to other friends. Gradually, my homestay became more widely known," said Mr. A Kâm.

Not only providing accommodation services, Mr. A Kâm also organizes tours to see the hydroelectric reservoir, row boats on the Dak Bla River, experience mountain climbing, farming, etc. These new tours create curiosity and excitement for visitors. Up to now, his homestay welcomes 1-2 foreign tourist groups each month.

Mr. A Kâm also connects with local people to do tourism. When guests have a need, he will contact the villagers to perform xoang dance, prepare food or participate in rowing boats to take guests on the river experience... This connection helps the locals have more income, the image of Kon K'tu village is also introduced to international friends.

According to Ms. Bach Thi Man, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Kon Tum province, the participation of ethnic minority youth in tourism shows the effectiveness of the campaign to change thinking and working methods. With the virtues of hard work, quick thinking, creativity and enthusiasm of youth, many ethnic minority youth have made great contributions to promoting the local image and developing tourism.

"You are local people, knowledgeable about the identity, culture and customs of the nation, so you have many advantages in introducing them to tourists. Moreover, you are also very quick to approach new models, creatively creating good ways to create attractive tourism products. Not only that, you also contribute to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of your nation through connecting with local people to perform gongs and xoang to serve tourists," said Ms. Man.
