Recently, the cold weather and the temperature difference between day and night have caused many health problems, especially for the elderly and children with weak resistance.

This is also a favorable condition for disease-causing bacteria and viruses to develop, potentially causing an outbreak of disease in the community. Health experts have made many recommendations on how to protect health during this period.

The Ministry of Health assessed that during the 2025 Lunar New Year and festival season, the demand for trade and tourism increases, while the winter-spring weather easily creates favorable conditions for pathogens.

In recent days, Ha Dong General Hospital has received a large number of patients, especially the elderly and children.

The rate of hospitalized patients accounted for 18.9%, mainly those with underlying medical conditions such as high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and musculoskeletal problems.

Although these patients often relapse during the changing seasons, respiratory infections are making young children susceptible to lung diseases.

Specialist Doctor II Phi Thi Hai Anh, Head of the Examination Department of Ha Dong General Hospital, said that cold weather is the reason for the increase in the number of patients.

The hospital has taken effective treatment measures such as arranging appropriate patient rooms and increasing consultation for patients and relatives on health care, as well as ensuring proper nutrition.

At the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, nearly 20 patients are being treated for pneumonia, including some severe cases requiring ventilators and continuous dialysis.

One of them is Mr. NT, 62 years old, in Hanoi, who was hospitalized in serious condition after coming into contact with someone with the flu. He was diagnosed with severe pneumonia, influenza A infection and Aspergillus infection, and had to be placed on a ventilator to maintain his breathing.

According to Dr. Tran Van Bac, Deputy Head of the Emergency Department, Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, pneumonia is not only a common disease but also very dangerous for people with underlying diseases or immunodeficiency. If not treated promptly, the disease can lead to respiratory failure and other dangerous complications.

In the first week of 2025, Hong Ngoc General Hospital examined and treated more than 300 cases of influenza A, with more than 20% of cases having severe complications such as pneumonia and bronchitis. What is worrying is that many cases were brought to the hospital late and without professional examination, while parents arbitrarily gave their children medicine.

The Ministry of Health assessed that during the 2025 Lunar New Year and the festival season, the demand for trade and tourism increases, while the winter-spring weather easily creates favorable conditions for pathogens. Respiratory and digestive infectious diseases, especially measles, influenza, and diseases transmitted from animals to humans, are at increased risk.

The industry also predicts that many infectious diseases are likely to increase in 2025. Among them, dengue fever, seasonal flu, hand, foot and mouth disease, measles and vaccine-preventable diseases such as whooping cough will be at risk of outbreaks, especially in areas with low vaccination rates.

Statistics from the Ministry of Health show that in 2024, the country recorded more than 141,000 cases of dengue fever and 28 deaths; more than 76,000 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease and 287,548 cases of seasonal flu. Of which, the number of measles and influenza A cases increased sharply, while the vaccination rate has not reached the level of community protection.

Explaining the increase in the incidence of the disease, according to the representative of the Ministry of Health, the lack of adequate vaccination among a part of the population, especially in large cities, is the main reason why the disease is easy to break out. Therefore, strengthening the work of monitoring, vaccination and disease prevention is very important to prevent the spread.

To minimize the risk of epidemics, the Ministry of Health requires provinces and cities to effectively implement disease prevention and surveillance measures from the beginning of the year. Localities need to improve preventive health care capacity, prepare response plans for emergency situations, and organize full vaccination for people.

In addition, propaganda work on disease prevention needs to be promoted, especially for high-risk groups such as children, the elderly and people with underlying medical conditions.

Each family needs to proactively monitor their health, get fully vaccinated and take hygiene measures to protect their own health and the community's.

For each person, to protect their health at this time, experts recommend supplementing with adequate nutrients, especially vitamins C, D, A, zinc, magnesium found in green vegetables, fresh fruits, seeds, fish, eggs, milk, etc.

Elderly people and children should divide their meals into smaller portions, prioritizing easily digestible foods such as porridge and soup, and limiting greasy foods and alcoholic beverages. Drinking enough water (1.5 - 2.5 liters/day) is also very important to prevent respiratory diseases.

To have enough resistance, in addition to a reasonable diet, people also need to maintain light exercise, get enough sleep and keep the living environment airy and clean to prevent the growth of bacteria and viruses.
