Previously, at 9:30 a.m. on August 14, a forest fire broke out at block 1, sub-zone 147, Thuy Duong ward. Upon receiving a fire alarm from the Nui Vung fire watchtower belonging to Tien Phong Forestry One Member Co., Ltd., Huong Thuy Town Forest Protection Department immediately notified the People's Committee of Thuy Duong ward and Thuy Duong Agricultural Cooperative to mobilize forces to participate in fire fighting.
On-site forces, vehicles and equipment were mobilized to approach the scene to put out the fire. Due to the steep terrain and thick, dry understory, it was difficult to approach and put out the fire. It took 5 hours (until 13:00 the same day) for the fire to be completely extinguished.
Mr. Van Duc Thuan, Head of the Forest Protection Department of Huong Thuy Town, informed that the total number of people mobilized to participate in fire fighting was nearly 400 people, including all cadres and people of Thuy Duong ward, forestry sector, armed forces, forest owners and many fire trucks, tankers...
Despite the timely intervention of departments and forest owners, the forest area burned and damaged 1.44 hectares. The burned forest area was mainly planted forest, including acacia plantation planted in 2021 and pine plantation planted in 1978 with protective function managed by Tien Phong Forestry One Member Co., Ltd.
According to Mr. Thuan, the weather factors at the time of the fire were as high as 40 degrees Celsius, predicting a level V forest fire (extremely dangerous level). The cause of the fire as of August 15 is still undetermined. The Forest Protection Department of Huong Thuy town continues to coordinate with the police, forest owners and the People's Committee of Thuy Duong ward to investigate and verify.
Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said that although units, localities, and coordinating forces have made great efforts in implementing synchronous measures, regardless of difficulties and dangers, working together to extinguish and fight forest fires... there are still many limitations that need to be overcome to improve the effectiveness of forest fire prevention and fighting (PCCCR).
In the past two weeks alone (up to August 15), there have been eight consecutive forest fires in the province, an alarming number. The most recent were the forest fire in Thuy Duong on August 14 and the cajuput forest fire in Quang Loi commune (Quang Dien) a few days ago.
In the recent fires, it is confirmed that the number of forces mobilized to fight the fire was quite large, but the guidance to approach the fire was not timely, so some forces participating in the rescue did not reach the fire early. In addition, the lack of support from the on-duty force in commanding the fire fighting made the fire fighting efficiency not high. The cause of the forest fires is being investigated, but initially determined to be due to the severe and prolonged hot weather, people burning votive paper, incense, lighting fires near the forest...
Recently, the forestry sector and related departments organized a discussion on more effective PCCCR measures. Accordingly, to improve the effectiveness of PCCCR work, the departments agreed to propose many groups of solutions. In particular, focusing on solutions to improve the capacity of PCCCR management and command. When a fire is detected, it is necessary to quickly mobilize local forces and people to participate in fire fighting; logistics and access routes in forest fire fighting must be ensured as required.
The fire fighting process requires timely, accurate and effective information processing and exchange. Forest fire fighting equipment and tools are mobilized and allocated promptly and to the correct location of the forest fire. The authorities promptly investigate and verify the violators to take deterrent measures and strictly handle them according to the provisions of the law.
Localities and departments need to allocate adequate and timely funding to support forces participating in forest fire fighting according to regulations. People need to raise awareness in implementing forest fire prevention and control measures, while forest rangers and forest protection forces need to regularly patrol and block off areas to promptly prevent violations of forest fire prevention and control...
