On April 5, within the framework of Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2025, the talk show Green Tourism for Sustainable Development aimed to dig deeper and find solutions for green tourism.
Green tourism "makes" money
At the talk show, Mr. Duong Duc Minh said that green tourism products always have higher prices than normal tourism products.
Mr. Minh cited the example of the green tourism product Con Chim Tra Vinh, which costs 600,000 VND, including lunch, and visitors who come 7 times still want to come many more times; while Con Phung - Con Thoi Son, Tien Giang, which does not have "green tourism" attached, costs only 120,000 VND and visitors only come once.
"Doing tourism is to make money, doing green tourism is to welcome few guests but earn high income. I once guided a 2-day, 1-night green tourism tour, the price was 6 million, equal to a 7-day Thailand tour," Mr. Minh emphasized.
Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Chau A - founder and general director of Oxalis Group - saw the potential of Son Doong Cave, building a world-class adventure tour.
Mr. A informed that in 2024, there will be 50,000 tourists participating in the Son Doong cave exploration. Although the tour price is very high at 3,000 USD, it is always full, the experience of sleeping in a tent in the cave has become a rare adventure tour because each year only 1,000 people can use the tour.
Or Tan Hoa tourism (Quang Binh province), from a flood center to the award of Best Tourist Village by UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization), because it is associated with nature and green tourism.
According to Mr. Chau A, in 2024, Tan Hoa tourist village will have 11,000 visitors, with total revenue of more than 10 billion VND; in the first quarter of 2025, there will be 5,000 visitors with revenue of more than 5.5 billion VND.
Many solutions when doing green tourism
According to Mr. Minh, doing green tourism makes money but everything must follow the trend. Green tourism is the "final boss" of future tourism trends, so 5 solutions are needed.
For example, we must thoroughly understand green tourism; green tourism is associated with sustainable values, so it is not about immediate benefits but about long-term values; we must be patient.
"Green tourism practitioners need to connect resources to the green tourism network. There are not many green tourists. If there are 10 people, 2 are interested and only 1 person practices green tourism. This person pays a high price and connects with nature.
Therefore, green tourism should not be promoted in a mass way, but should be chosen as a destination with green resources and connected wisely. In particular, training and transforming farmers, creating an economy, then they will see the need to preserve the locality and connect with nature," Mr. Minh said about the solution.

Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, believes that green tourism is closely linked to sustainable development, so the role of businesses is very important.
Ho Chi Minh City has Thieng Lieng Island (Can Gio District) as a green tourism destination. The city needs many destinations to bring community tourism products closer to the locality, to preserve the unique environment around it.
Traveling is not just about checking in, but tourists also learn about the culture there. Promoting tourism associated with geology is the solution suggested by Ms. Helly Tong, a community activist.
In addition, Mr. A believes that having tourism products that adapt to all weather conditions; tourism activities that are done step by step, not too chaotic and preserving the cultural traditions of the local people, having initiatives and sharing benefits with the people... that is the right way for green tourism.
