According to the 2023 survey, 70.6% of customers choose to get travel information via the internet, an increase of 5% compared to the 2019 survey. This shows that the trend of digital transformation and information from the internet is increasingly high.
Over the past years, Lao Cai has been making efforts to catch up with the digital transformation trend to improve direct and indirect experiences for tourists. State management of tourism, tourism business systems and tourism service experiences have been improved as many agencies, units, localities and enterprises have applied digital technology to tourism activities.
Ms. Tatiana from Germany and her relatives had a trip to Sa Pa for 3 days and 2 nights. Ms. Tatiana said: I came to Vietnam for about 2 weeks. Before coming to Vietnam, I learned about your country on the internet and learned about Sa Pa. Booking a room as well as finding out about the schedule at tourist attractions in Sa Pa was quite convenient. My trip was more successful than expected.

Currently, tourists can access many channels of information about Lao Cai tourism. In the digital application on smartphones, Lao Cai has established and integrated many applications, digitized tourism explanation content for searching by QR code, electronic payment on smartphones; virtual tour guide and will soon launch a digital tourism map of Lao Cai province on phones. Lao Cai is gradually building digital tourism data, initially testing the digitization of Lao Cai tourism consulting data to automatically respond (including booking tourism services) to tourists in Vietnamese - English through automatic Chatbots in audio or writing 24/24h.


The Department of Tourism is coordinating with VNPT Lao Cai to develop a proposal for VR 360 tourism products. In addition, there are a number of websites that are operating effectively such as: dulichlaocai.vn; laocaitourism.vn; dulichtaybac.vn; sapa-tourism.com. Social networking platforms such as Lao Cai tourism fanpage, Sapa tourism information, Sapa museum, Zalo official, TikTok are all operating effectively. The Department of Tourism maintains online and remote consulting information in many languages such as Vietnamese - Chinese - English - French. Data and reports are regularly updated on tourism websites or designed in infographic format and posted on websites and social networks.


Information and tourism promotion activities on technology platforms since the beginning of 2024 have achieved many results, with "speaking" numbers.
The website dulichlaocai.vn has 22,302 views with 21,105 visitors; the smart tourism portal (laocaitourism.vn) has an estimated total of 113,030 visits; the website sapa-tourism.com has an estimated 62,200 visitors with 40,000 views; the website dulichtaybac.vn has an estimated 42,460 visits. Information and tourism promotion activities on social networking platforms are highly effective. The Lao Cai Tourism YouTube channel has 18,441 views, 140,515 visits; the Lao Cai Tourism channel on TikTok has 13,132 views, 1,260 likes; the Lao Cai Tourism fanpage on Facebook currently has more than 14,000 followers, with 491,000 visits.

Mr. Pham Tat Thanh, Director of the Provincial Tourism Information and Promotion Center, said: In addition to the achieved results, Lao Cai tourism is currently facing some difficulties such as lack of human resources for technology operations; tourism businesses in Lao Cai operate on a small scale, the cost of operating digital conversion equipment is still lacking; the application of technology in some businesses and tourist destinations is still limited.
To help tourists access Lao Cai tourism more conveniently and easily, in the coming time, Lao Cai will continue to maintain and regularly update information on the website, social networks about tourism, information about tourist areas, attractions, ticket prices, services, room bookings, etc. At the same time, apply 4.0 technology to enhance data connection and support effective search tools for tourists (360 technology, self-designed tours, etc.). Effectively use communication through famous people (KOL marketing) such as singers, actors, TikTokers, YouTubers, etc. to spread and introduce tourist attractions in Lao Cai to tourists. Take advantage of technology to organize online promotion programs as organized with India and Korea in the past.

Promoting and advertising tourism on the internet will help the tourism industry stay ahead of the curve, grasp trends and the times, and meet customer needs. Changing the mindset of doing tourism will help access and fully utilize the benefits of digital transformation, creating opportunities for Lao Cai tourism to break through, develop green, smart and different.
