The music of ABBA program by the Swedish band Arrival is an event within the framework of the program to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sweden (1969-2024). The music night series The Music of ABBA is co-organized by the Saigon Symphony Orchestra (SPO) and the Hanoi Opera House.
Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong and Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Johan Ndisi attended and presented flowers to congratulate the members of the band Arrival. The band had an impressive tour of "The Music of ABBA" in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Ninh Binh, and the show at the Opera House was the last night of the series of programs.
The band Arrival truly set the August Revolution Square on fire, taking the audience back in time to the 1970s and 1980s with the immortal songs of ABBA. The combination of the vibrant sounds of ABBA's music with the graceful beauty of the costumes symbolizing Vietnamese culture made the audience of the concert unable to sit still. The performance of "Dancing Queen" in traditional Vietnamese ao dai attracted the audience to dance and follow the music.
Head of the Women's Cultural Heritage Club, Honorary President of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, former Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Dang Thi Bich Lien emphasized that the image of Vietnamese Ao Dai appearing on the stage of the music night, worn and performed by the members of the music group from Sweden, has multiplied its meaning, showing the spread and promotion of traditional Vietnamese cultural values to international friends.
Chairwoman of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam said that on this occasion, the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club presented traditional ao dai to members of the Arrival band with the desire to create connections, exchanges, and spread the cultural beauty between Vietnam and Sweden on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"The performance of Vietnamese Ao Dai with ABBA music was wonderful. The sounds and colors blended together to create a truly passionate atmosphere for the audience in the capital. Vietnamese Ao Dai with ABBA music has built another bridge to spread Vietnamese culture to the world," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam.
According to members of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, this is an opportunity to promote and spread the beauty and traditional values of the Vietnamese Ao Dai to the public. Last September, the Club coordinated with Vietnamese embassies in Europe to establish Ao Dai Heritage Clubs, including the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club in Sweden.
The concert lasted for two hours, the band Arrival brought a series of famous songs associated with the legendary band ABBA, recalling memories of youth. Those songs were Gimme Gimme Gimme; Money, Money, Money; Hasta Manana, Fernando, Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen...
ABBA's music is part of the youthful memories of many generations and is a source of inspiration for many young people today. During the concert, many generations of audiences born in the 60s, 70s, and 80s shared that, although time has passed, ABBA's music still resonates forever.
Ms. Phan Thuy Thao (Long Bien, Hanoi) shared: "The music night brought me back to the exciting years of my youth when I was immersed in the musical space of ABBA. Youth is the most beautiful time that anyone wishes to return to once in their life. The proud thing is that music is combined with Ao Dai, both honoring Vietnamese culture and attracting the audience, it is really impressive. Before the performance, at the Mirror Room of the Hanoi Opera House, the band met, exchanged and received traditional Ao Dai costumes from the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club (under the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund). 17 sets of Ao Dai for men and women were presented to the band by designers of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club, including Ao Dai brands Ngan An, De Silk, Han Phuong, An An, Huong Beful. 3 collections by designers Huong Beful, Han Phuong, An An of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club participated in the performance on stage with the band.
The artists from Sweden were very excited and expressed their happiness when the members of the Vietnam Ao Dai Heritage Club introduced them to the traditional costume of Vietnamese women.

Arrival From Sweden was founded in 1995. To date, they have performed in more than 70 countries with more than 100 orchestras, and in 2024 alone, they performed 80 shows. This song was released by Arrival from Sweden in 1999, then re-recorded by ABBA and released in 2021 on the album Voyage.
