Speaking to Sky News , Mr Healey said President-elect Donald Trump was well aware that nations gain security through strength, as well as through alliances like NATO.
"I hope the United States will continue to stand with its allies and support Ukraine until it achieves victory against Russia's special military campaign," the official said.
Commenting that the US commitment to NATO and European security will not change under Mr. Trump, and that European countries need to increase defense spending, the British Defense Secretary said: "I do not think the US will turn its back on NATO. Washington recognizes the importance of this alliance, as well as of avoiding further conflicts in Europe."
In addition, in the power transition meeting on November 13, incumbent US President Joe Biden is expected to try to convince Mr. Trump and the new administration not to withdraw support for Kiev.
According to White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, in the next 70 days, Mr. Biden will make a final effort to convince Congress and the new administration that Washington should not move away from Ukraine.
