Regarding the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand in the early afternoon of March 28, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam received a quick report from the Flight Coordination Information Center under the Air Traffic Management Center (Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation - VATM) regarding the impact of the earthquake in Thailand on Vietnam's civil aviation activities.

Specifically, at 14:09, the Flight Coordination Information Center reported receiving information from the Ho Chi Minh Area Control Center (ACC HCM) regarding the impact of the earthquake in Thailand on civil aviation activities.

Accordingly, all flights to Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports will be temporarily suspended until further notice from Thai authorities. These are the two airports where Vietnamese airlines are operating regular flights.

Immediately after receiving the report from the Flight Coordination Information Center, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam directed the Air Traffic Management Center to deploy information to Vietnamese airlines, the National Flight Operations Center under the Air Defense - Air Force Service and collect information to assess and deploy air traffic management measures, especially applying the calculated take-off time measure, as well as reporting the number of affected flights to the department.

In addition, the Vietnam Air Traffic Control Center received information from the Bangkok Air Traffic Control Center (Thailand) and deployed air traffic control measures to ensure effective coordination of flight operations in the area.

Specifically, for flights arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport, apply the calculated take-off time measure to aircraft departing to this airport and require airlines and air traffic management units to strictly comply with the issued calculated take-off time measure.

For flights to Don Muong airport, a minimum departure interval of 5 minutes/flight applies for flights departing from the same airport.

In the absence of calculated departure time measures, continue to apply a minimum departure interval of 5 minutes/flight to control air traffic flow.

Vietnam's Air Traffic Control Center has promptly deployed the calculated take-off times provided by Thailand to airlines departing from Vietnam, and at the same time notified the air traffic control stations at Vietnamese airports with flights to Bangkok, ensuring that airlines comply with regulations.

The affected flights include: VN610 (Hanoi - Bangkok) of Vietnam Airlines had to turn back to refuel and wait for assessment from airport authorities, then took off at 14:55 local time; Flight AIQ637 of Thai AirAsia (Da Nang - Bangkok) was delayed compared to the plan, then departed at 14:59 local time.

Unaffected flights include: VN615 (Hanoi - Bangkok) of Vietnam Airlines, BAV323 (Tan Son Nhat - Bangkok) of Bamboo Airways, VAG131 (Tan Son Nhat - Bangkok) of Vietravel Airlines.

According to the latest announcement from the Bangkok Air Traffic Control Center, flight operations in Thailand have been restored at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 3:00 p.m. and Don Muang Airport at 3:02 p.m.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has directed the Air Traffic Management Center to continue to closely monitor the situation and coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure safety and efficiency of flight operations in the area.
