The Delhi Metropolitan Government has held an emergency meeting to discuss measures to address the water shortage crisis caused by the prolonged extreme heat wave.
The water crisis is severe in many areas of the Delhi metropolitan area. People have to wait in long queues for hours to get water from tankers provided by the government. Temperatures that have reached a record high of 52.3 degrees Celsius in Delhi have further increased the demand for water, leaving the water supplied by tankers inadequate.
Delhi Water Minister Atishi has urged citizens to take collective responsibility and avoid wasting water, lest the government be forced to intervene in the capital’s water supply. The Delhi government has also announced a $24 fine for wasting water.
