Amazon officially kills Kindle Oasis e-reader

Amazon officially discontinued the Kindle Oasis - a popular e-reader model - to make way for the company's new product line.

Amazon has confirmed that it will discontinue the Kindle Oasis, the last Kindle e-reader to feature a physical button. The announcement comes shortly after the company launched the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, the first Kindle with a color screen.

This isn’t too surprising, considering the Kindle Oasis has been on the market for over 8 years. What’s surprising is that there are still a lot of people using this e-reader. There’s a whole thread on Reddit where Kindle Oasis users are expressing their love for this e-reader.

Sharing with The Verge, Amazon representative Devon Corvasce said: "When the Kindle Oasis inventory is sold out, we will not restock this device. Currently, all of our devices prioritize touch features, which is what our customers are familiar with."

The Kindle Oasis is currently unavailable for purchase on Amazon, with a “product currently unavailable” message, and will likely remain so until supplies run out. The e-reader may be removed from Amazon’s website entirely in the coming months.

After its initial launch in 2016, the Kindle Oasis received two new updates in 2017 and 2019. Since then, Amazon has focused on releasing touch-enabled Kindle models, making the Oasis feel more dated.

However, many users still wish that Amazon would keep at least one Kindle model with physical buttons in its product catalog, as there are many users who prefer the Kindle Oasis over the new touch-only models.
