Chinese businesses, from chipmakers to cloud service providers, are flocking to support DeepSeek's artificial intelligence (AI) model.

Moore Threads and Hygon Information Technology, AI chipmakers with ambitions to compete with Nvidia, said their computer clusters and accelerators can support DeepSeek's R1 and V3 models.

Chinese businesses flock to back DeepSeek's AI application.

“We pay tribute to DeepSeek,” Moore Threads wrote in the headline of the WeChat post, adding that the progress of models using domestically produced graphics processing units (GPUs) could “explode” the AI industry in China.

Over the weekend, Huawei Technologies, which also has its own line of AI chips, partnered with AI infrastructure startup SiliconFlow to offer DeepSeek models to customers on its cloud service. The company said their performance was comparable to models running on top-end global chips.

The news that Huawei has integrated DeepSeek's samples with its Ascend chip marks a "significant moment" in China's AI industry, Bernstein analysts said.

“DeepSeek demonstrates that large language models (LLMs) can be implemented on Chinese chips, reducing dependence on advanced US hardware,” Bernstein representatives said, citing Ascend and planned chips from Cambricon and Hygon.

Other major companies like Alibaba, Baidu, and Tencent are also moving to make DeepSeek's models accessible through services.

Last month, DeepSeek launched a free AI assistant that uses less data and costs a fraction of existing services. Within days, the app surpassed U.S. rival ChatGPT in downloads from Apple’s App Store, triggering a global tech stock sell-off.

DeepSeek previously attracted attention in global AI circles with a research paper in December 2024 that said training DeepSeek-V3 required less than $6 million in computing power from Nvidia's H800 chips, compared to the billions spent by tech giants like Meta and Microsoft.

China has welcomed DeepSeek's success, turning the Hangzhou-based startup and its founder, Liang Wenfeng, into pop culture celebrities.

US companies like Microsoft and Amazon have also begun offering DeepSeek models, but some countries like Italy and the Netherlands have blocked or are investigating DeepSeek's AI applications over privacy concerns.
