(NLDO)- Representatives of universities and researchers from 9 countries were present in Vietnam to discuss hot issues in university education.

The Conference of Rectors of AUF member organizations in Asia - Pacific was held at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, Ho Chi Minh City on November 5.

Professor Slim Khalbous, General Director of AUF Global, said that currently, member universities are facing many challenges such as digital transformation, employment for graduates, training quality and promotion of research results, etc.

"The conference not only summarizes AUF's 2021-2025 strategy, but also serves as an opportunity for the rectors to discuss and resolve issues of university education and research, as well as jointly build a new strategy for the 2025-2029 period," said Professor Slim Khalbous.

Mr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, emphasized that the Vietnamese Government is showing strong determination in promoting the application of information technology, promoting digital transformation and developing high-quality human resource training through a series of important resolutions and projects. These policies not only create favorable conditions for the development of key industries but also guide education and training to change to catch up with global trends.

In the 4 discussion sessions, Mr. Son was impressed with 2 discussion sessions: Artificial Intelligence (AI) with university education management and research; dialogue between academia and professionals.

"The application of AI in university management not only helps optimize management processes but also facilitates data analysis and makes accurate strategic decisions. AI also opens up great opportunities in scientific research, helping to enhance the ability to analyze and explore, thereby enhancing the research position of universities in the region and the world" - Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son affirmed.

The Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam will continue to support and accompany AUF and universities in promoting a quality educational environment, meeting the needs and development of the region.

Associate Professor Dr. Vo Trung Hung, Vice Principal of the University of Technical Education (University of Danang), said that AI is both a tool and a term that is not clearly understood, because the way AI is presented to the public is often very different from reality. For example: Deep learning, general AI, predictive AI, probabilistic models, deterministic models, etc.

According to Mr. Hung, universities wishing to participate in this field need to ensure that appropriate measures are taken regarding the benefits, harms, risks and opportunities of integrating AI into university education and research governance mechanisms.
