A new way to diagnose diseases. Hong Kong tech company PanopticAI is using AI software to turn mobile phones into universal medical devices. In 30 seconds, PanopticAI's software can measure heart rate, blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, and stress levels.

Computer vision algorithms measure color changes caused by blood flow under the skin. Such small changes are imperceptible to the human eye.

Belt for the blind developed by AI Guided.

AI belt to assist the visually impaired. AI Guided, a Chinese startup, has developed a belt that helps the visually impaired navigate the streets safely in crowded urban conditions. AI Guided has been selected as a finalist for the 2023 Spirit of Hong Kong Awards in the Spirit of Innovation category.

The belt-worn device developed by AI Guided, with the latest version being the 10th generation, is equipped with two wide-angle cameras that capture and analyze images, as well as identify obstacles using AI and computer vision algorithms.

The belt provides impulses to push the user in the right direction and warn of obstacles, while also generating audible signals familiar to the blind, which can be heard near traffic lights or at train stations. The product is expected to go into mass production by the end of 2023.

TikTok's new tool for tagging video content is generated using AI.

TikTok will properly label videos generated by AI, a move that is said to help creators better comply with the “Synthetic and Manipulated Media” policy that TikTok updated earlier this year.

This is TikTok’s third major change related to synthetic media in 2023. TikTok previously committed to the “Responsible Practices for Synthetic Media” principles alongside Google, Adobe, OpenAI, and other major tech companies.

The company is also partnering with Digital Moment to host roundtables where creators can share their perspectives on AI-generated content.

New space mission. China plans to launch a satellite that will operate in a previously unexplored orbit between the Earth and the Sun. The project will focus on collecting solar sensors and monitoring weather from space. To carry out the project, China has set a goal of launching the Xihe-2 probe to the L5 Lagrange point (gravitational equilibrium point) in 2026.

Located about 150 million kilometers from Earth, the probe will study the origin and evolution of magnetic fields in the Sun's active region, revealing the three-dimensional structure and physical mechanisms of solar flares.

Asian Smart Games Congress. The Asian Games will be held from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou and five other cities in Zhejiang Province (China). Host country China has used technologies such as 5G-Advanced and the Internet of Things (IoT) to organize the games.

5G-Advanced global communication technology has been deployed on smart devices and connected cars in the system, providing simultaneous Internet access to tens of thousands of people at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center stadium without network delays.

Passive IoT tags will be used to monitor the temperature and humidity of the environment in the sports center. They will also assist with vehicle logistics, inventory management, and anti-theft. Driverless buses will also be used in the vicinity of the event venue.
