Few people know that behind the current achievements of this enterprise, there is a journey and a spirit of continuous learning to upgrade oneself, reaching out to reach world-class standards as shared by Ms. Chu Thi Thanh Ha - Chairman of FPT Software, a company specializing in IT services for foreign markets of FPT Corporation: "World-class people create a world-class company". And only by promoting the spirit of learning can one become a world-class person.
Creating world-class momentum
From the early days of its establishment, FPT Software had the mindset of “going forward without knowing anything” with the desire to find a job. And just one year later, the “first lesson in life” the company received was only failure. FPT Software realized that in order to survive and develop in foreign markets, the company had to change its mindset and improve its capacity to meet the strict requirements of global customers. The company immediately started training in procedures, foreign languages, and preparing for international technology certification exams.
Since then, the company's leaders have ignited a spirit of thirst for learning, improving processes, updating international standards, and enhancing the capacity of each employee.
One of the training programs to improve FPT Software's capacity and quality management process is the CMM-4 campaign. CMM is a quality certificate of the Software Engineering Institute SEI established and funded by the US Department of Defense. A company that achieves CMM level 4 (out of 5 levels) must be capable of managing software projects using data (or figures) that fully meet customer requirements and ensure the company's business goals regarding product quality. In 2002, FPT Software became the first company in Southeast Asia to achieve CMM-4, entering the list of the world's top 100 companies in quality management, meaning that the company won a first-class passport to enter the world software market.
In project management, FPT Software also continuously raises standards through cooperation with the world's leading organizations such as the Project Management Institute (PMI), to apply the most modern international standards.
In addition, the company has also invested in research to capture the latest technology trends in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, automotive technology, etc. In the field of AI, the company is one of the founding members of the Global AI Alliance with IBM, Meta and 50 other large companies and organizations. Most recently, the company has cooperated with Aitomatic and Tokyo Electron (TEL) to launch SemiKong, the world's first open-source large language model (LLM) dedicated to the semiconductor industry.
Nurture a thirst for learning
One of the factors that helped Infosys become the world's IT legend with a capitalization of over 70 billion USD is the culture of lifelong learning. Infosys established the Global Education Center in Mysore (India) in 2002, covering 150 hectares, with 400 lecturers and more than 200 classrooms, meeting all international standards. The center can receive and train up to 14,000 individuals at a time in many different technology fields.
Similarly, FPT Software is actively becoming a learning organization to move towards and go beyond the goal of “A Billion Dollar, World-Class Company”, as shared by FPT Software Chairwoman Chu Thi Thanh Ha. FPT Software has been building a variety of learning programs, meeting the aspirations of target groups from new recruits, young people to experts and middle managers.
To promote the company's learning culture and learn from the practical experiences of the Indian IT legend, in early 2024, FPT Software successfully recruited Mr. Prajith Nair, former Training Director at Infosys, to take on the position of Training and Innovation Director. Mr. Prajith Nair affirmed: “A company that wants to develop strongly needs employees who are always ready to solve customer challenges. To do so, each individual needs to proactively learn and develop themselves. In particular, training staff to meet customer needs should only account for about 20%, while 80% of the training volume must be based on the requirements of the job position and career path of each employee”.
Specifically, FPT Software provides proactive learning programs for employees with diverse content, from technical majors, marketing to foreign languages...; diverse training methods, from online and direct self-training within the organization, to financial and time support for employees to study and take other certification exams.
FPT Software has cooperated with the world-famous online learning platform Udacity since 2021. In 2022, FPT Software invested an additional 100 billion VND in Udacity to train and improve the capacity of its human resources in Data, AI, Cloud, IoT, Blockchain, Security, etc. At the same time, many high-quality learning programs and support campaigns for learning and taking certification exams have been launched continuously, such as Upskilling (a program to develop specialized skills for programmers), Global SE (English training), 20K Certificates (professional certification training, issued by Udacity), PMI-555 (project management certification training), etc., providing proactive learning opportunities for more than 33,000 FPT Software employees. Depending on the job requirements of each position, employees must complete proactive learning programs.
FPT Software’s learning culture goes beyond adopting new processes and technologies to encouraging innovation. Employees are encouraged to share ideas and experiences, creating a positive and creative work environment.
Preparing future IT resources
Infosys currently has about 317,000 employees, nearly 10 times the number of employees of FPT Software. The development of Infosys is also associated with the philosophy of focusing on and developing human resources, considering people as the most valuable asset of the company.
Aiming for the scale of Infosys means FPT Software needs to prepare huge resources in the long term. FPT Software has linked up with universities with developed IT majors and sponsored scholarships for excellent technology students. Recently, the company announced a training investment package worth 150 billion VND, linking up with 15 universities to promote IT resources that know Japanese.
Today, India has become a global technology powerhouse thanks to the dream of building a software company by Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, which has inspired the dream of being a programmer for many generations. In a meeting with Vietnamese technology enterprises last May, Mr. Narayana Murthy affirmed that Vietnam's recent emergence as a global technology destination reflects the country's commitment and investment. Mr. Murthy also affirmed that enterprises like FPT will help Vietnam realize its national potential.
