Two important factors to learn foreign languages well

Giving advice to students about learning a foreign language, Master Tran Thai Dinh Khuong believes that the first important thing is to set a specific goal and roadmap. "There are many reasons to start learning a foreign language. It could be to serve work needs, prepare documents for studying abroad, settling down or simply because you love it, are curious, and want to learn more about a country, land, or people. During the learning process, there will be times when that initial motivation will no longer be as strong as before. Especially when the amount of knowledge increases, grammar and vocabulary also become more and more difficult," said Master Khuong.

So, according to this young lecturer, instead of looking for a short-term source of motivation, specify your goals and build a suitable learning path. For example, plan how many vocabulary words you can learn, how many grammar points you can master, and what certificates you can achieve in how long from the start. Try to detail what needs to be done by month, week, and day. "For those who are not familiar with making plans, making a foreign language learning plan will often take a lot of time. However, a detailed plan will help save a lot of time when you don't have to worry about what to learn today and especially help you have direction on this multi-year journey," the young lecturer added.

The second important thing to be able to learn a foreign language well, according to Master Tran Thai Dinh Khuong, is discipline. According to Master Khuong, this is probably one of the most important factors, especially for self-learners. It can be affirmed that our era is the most convenient era for learning and practicing foreign language skills. Besides a lot of quality learning materials, textbooks, and reference materials, we can also easily exploit audio-visual media and social networks, making learning foreign languages more interesting and lively than ever.

"In case you don't have the ability to discipline yourself, let's build/join a small foreign language learning community together. In addition to the knowledge from your classmates, believe me, you will have many more super friends and many memorable learning memories," added the lecturer of the Faculty of Business Administration, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry.

The lecturer with IELTS 8.0 certificate said: "Along with patient and regular practice, practical application plays a decisive role in learning a foreign language well. I think that language is like a living thing, it also needs an environment to live and develop. Always constantly improve and perfect your foreign language skills, create a suitable environment so that your foreign language skills have the opportunity to be used in real life."

"I believe that around you, there are many people who have, are, and will start learning a foreign language. So if you have planned to learn a foreign language, don't hesitate, start," the young lecturer advised.
