Starting from 2024, Da Nang City will have about 23 establishments that must inventory greenhouse gas emissions. Of these, 19 establishments belong to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, which are industrial production establishments and enterprises. In addition, these enterprises and establishments must also make plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the period 2026-2030.
Mr. Duong Chi Cong - Consultant of Vietnam Technology Solutions Joint Stock Company, the unit coordinating with the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City to train businesses - said that for the Industry and Trade sector, specifically industrial enterprises, about 70 to 80% of emissions are from energy, that is, using electricity, coal, gasoline... in production. Only some special industries that consume a lot of energy such as cement, construction materials production have other sources of emissions from chemical reactions in the production process.
Based on that figure, Mr. Chung Viet Cuong - representative of Viettel Construction Joint Stock Company in Da Nang - said that currently, many factories and enterprises across the country have chosen to install rooftop solar power systems to use renewable electricity. This helps businesses reduce electricity costs and at the same time reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
There are currently two forms of solar power investment: businesses can invest their own money or connect with external investment funds. With the option of businesses investing directly, they must accept a high initial investment but also enjoy high profits.
For example, a project that the unit implemented in 2020 was a factory in Quang Nam with an initial investment of more than 12 billion VND, so after about 5.5 years, the enterprise can recover its capital. However, in reality, after a period of operation, the enterprise only takes about 5 years to recover its capital. Meanwhile, the renewable energy system has an operating time of over 20 years.
With the option of connecting with investment funds, businesses will take advantage of idle roofs to generate revenue by purchasing electricity at preferential prices from cooperative units and without operating costs.
Using renewable electricity such as solar power will also facilitate businesses because according to the draft electricity plan submitted to the Government, by 2030, Vietnam will encourage self-production and self-consumption.
In addition, businesses will also easily achieve "Green Building" and "Green Enterprise" certificates. These are important and necessary certificates that will help businesses' products easily meet export standards, increase brand value as well as products on the market.
Mr. Duong Chi Cong added that currently, businesses with full roof area can supply 70 to 80% of the electricity capacity needed, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions significantly. This is one of the options that industrial production facilities can consider and choose to both reduce emissions and create opportunities to compete with green certification when wanting to export goods to international markets.
