Young people do not fear challenges
Ms. Bach Van said that while still in office, she still spent her days off during the week taking short courses with the hope of supplementing her knowledge.
In 2021, Ms. Van took the master's exam and studied criminal law and criminal procedure, Faculty of Criminal Law, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law. In mid-June, she received her master's degree and was honored as one of five students awarded for their good achievements.
"I wish to pursue graduate studies and no matter how difficult it is, I must do it. Even when I have to study online during the pandemic, or if I have a car accident on the way to school, I still try to go to class. I believe that studying to gain knowledge, effort will bring worthy results, there is no time limit or age limit, or circumstances" - Ms. Bach Van said.
It is known that the master's program she is studying has 2 weeks for students to do internship. Despite her old age, Ms. Van still applied for an internship at the City Legal Aid Center.
"My secret to studying is to try hard, be diligent, study hard and know how to solve problems. Every time I take an exam, I am afraid of failing, but at this age, if I fail, I will try again. There is no rush because I believe that studying is to gain new knowledge" - Ms. Van shared.
She added: "I hope that young people will be devoted and ambitious in the work they are doing. Young people should not be afraid of challenges, there should be challenges to try to overcome. Age should not be limited, as long as you are healthy, you should keep working and learning for life. Learning is not only at school but also in society, learning from the experiences of those who have gone before."
A shining example in learning
Associate Professor Dr. Le Huynh Tan Duy, deputy head of the Criminal Law Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, commented that Ms. Van inspires learning and is an example for young people and their children to follow.
"Ms. Van is old but very diligent, hard-working and eager to learn. New and modern research methods require students to spend a lot of time and effort such as collecting court cases, interviewing experts, directly participating in court hearings of defendants under 18 years old... Ms. Van has completed all of them.
Course K35 is also the first course to implement applied-oriented graduate studies, with time for internships. Ms. Bach Van is not afraid of her age, is willing to go to the field and she is also one of the five students who were recently awarded" - said Mr. Duy.
Ms. Dang Hoan My (deputy head of class K35, criminal law faculty) said that Ms. Van's studious and diligent spirit is very high and admirable.
"At the age of U70, retired, Ms. Van is still proactive, diligently seeking, acquiring knowledge, and upgrading her qualifications. Regardless of the situation, she still tries to fully participate in all classes. The impression I remember most about her is her diligence. Once, her leg was injured, had to be in a cast, and had difficulty moving, but she still braved the rain to go to class by herself" - Ms. My said.
Hope to continue doing research
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bach Van said that in her free time, she also registers for short-term courses in commerce, economics and law, and completes a regular bachelor's degree. Her wish is to be healthy enough to continue doing research, have the knowledge to give accurate advice, and be dedicated to disseminating the law to the community.
