The 65th International Mathematical Olympiad - IMO 2024 took place from July 11 to July 22 in the UK. The Vietnamese national team had 6 students competing, as a result, all 6 students won medals and certificates of merit including: 2 Silver Medals, 3 Bronze Medals, 1 Certificate of Merit.
Specifically, the 2 Silver Medals won by the Vietnamese national team at IMO 2024 belong to: Tran Duy, a 12th grade student, High School for the Gifted, Hanoi National University of Education and Tran Minh Hoang, an 11th grade student, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, Ha Tinh province.
The 3 Bronze Medals went to: Pham Tran Minh Duc, 12th grade student, Tran Phu High School for the Gifted, Hai Phong; Nguyen Dang Dung, 11th grade student, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Nguyen Van Hoang, 12th grade student, Bac Ninh High School for the Gifted, Bac Ninh province.
And Ta Duc Anh, a 12th grade student at the High School for the Gifted, Hanoi National University of Education, received a Certificate of Merit.
The IMO 2024 competition has 109 delegations from 109 countries and territories with 609 contestants. The contestants go through 2 official competition days, with a time of 4.5 hours/day.
According to the regulations, the Organizing Committee will award official prizes to 50% of the participating contestants. In addition, the Organizing Committee will award certificates of merit to students who achieve the maximum score for a math problem.
This year's exam has a challenging structure for participating students, including Vietnamese students, with two combination problems, one at an average level and one at a difficult level.
Despite certain difficulties in both the exam questions and the health of some students taking the exam, the Vietnamese student delegation achieved good results and was highly appreciated in the region. This result continues to affirm the right direction in the work of discovering, selecting, nurturing and training excellent students of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The closing ceremony and awards ceremony is scheduled to be held by the IMO 2024 Organizing Committee on July 21, 2024, starting at 4:00 p.m. (UK time)./.
