The UPU letter writing competition is a meaningful activity that has been associated with many generations of Vietnamese students. In the 37th time Vietnam organized it for students nationwide to participate, the 54th UPU letter writing competition had the theme "Imagine you are the ocean. Write a letter to someone, explaining why and how they should take good care of you and protect you" .

With the desire to support students in writing good and formal letters, in addition to some notes on letter writing techniques, the Jury of the 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition also provided students with additional instructions on how to write this year's topic.

Specifically, the UPU letter writing contest entry must be written in clear, coherent, and emotional sentences; avoid writing letters that present information, list, or generalize. Letters with vivid details and reasonable comparisons will be more attractive, appealing, and convincing to readers.

A letter to the UPU international letter writing competition is not an ordinary letter, but a literary letter written with creativity and emotion that bears a distinct mark.

“You are the author of the letter, so be proactive in presenting your thoughts, feelings, and issues in the most convincing way. The winning letter is usually a letter with unique ideas, clear arguments, and simple yet expressive writing style,” emphasized the representative of the Jury.

Also according to the instructions of the Jury, although the annual theme of the UPU letter writing competition is different, to start writing a letter, students must first solve a common problem: clearly identifying the subject - position and role of the letter writer.

It depends on the theme requirements each year or on the children's imagination and creativity.

Regarding the theme of the 54th UPU letter writing competition, the representative of the National Jury analyzed: This year's theme has a very clear requirement: "Imagine you are the ocean"; so before writing a letter, students need to have basic knowledge about the ocean.

Once you have clearly identified the subject and have a basic understanding of the ocean, the next step is to clarify who will receive the letter. Choosing who will receive the letter is also very important and requires creativity.

Because the recipient will be the one who accompanies the writer from the beginning to the end of the letter, the one who listens to the sharing, and at the same time can participate in practical actions to help students solve their own stories, which contain many hopes and good ambitions for the future of humanity.

Finally, students need to understand and address the 'why' and 'how to' in the key phrase 'explain why and how they should take good care of and protect you'.

" The fact that you have given the reasons that compel you to write the letter (by showing the benefits and reality of the ocean) and how (through specific actions, proposing creative and effective solutions) means that you have thoroughly solved the important issue of protecting the ocean for the survival of the planet and the survival of all humanity" , the representative of the Jury noted.

In addition to contributing to developing students' writing skills and creativity, the UPU international letter writing competition also helps them understand more about the role of the postal industry.

At the same time, create opportunities for students to approach and perceive social and contemporary issues and express their thoughts on these issues; thereby fostering and nurturing the feelings and responsibilities of the young generation towards society, country and the world.

The UPU International Letter Writing Competition has been associated with many generations of Vietnamese students. Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 53rd UPU International Letter Writing Competition in Vietnam, emphasized: The UPU Letter Writing Competition is a meaningful activity, associated with many generations of Vietnamese students.
