According to information from the Russian Central Election Commission, the voter turnout rate in the Russian presidential election as of March 16 reached 55.1%.
Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Nikolai Bulaev assessed that this is a very significant number compared to the 2018 Russian presidential election, when the voting process took place in one day with the voting rate at official stations reaching 51.9%. After adding early voting and foreign voting data, this number increased to more than 67%.
A notable point on the second day of Russia's elections was the leaders of many territories and republics fulfilling their civic duties, including the President of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. He and his family voted at a local polling station.
The Chechen leader noted that voting was a pleasure and also stressed that all polling stations in the republic had a very high voter turnout.

“The country’s presidential elections are an extremely important socio-political event that determines the further development of the state. And I am very proud that the people of the Chechen Republic are fully aware of their importance,” Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on his personal Telegram page.
The head of Chechnya also said that the festive atmosphere at polling stations and the people of the region participating in the elections demonstrated the prosperity of this republic, as well as the entire federation.
Regarding ensuring security during the election, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev announced that those who violate order at polling stations during the Russian presidential election will be appropriately punished.
“This is direct support for those who are shelling our cities. Criminals at polling stations must realize that for their actions they may face a special criminal sentence for 20 years…”, Dmitry Medvedev said.
Dmitry Medvedev stressed that the actions of those who violate the order during the elections can be prosecuted under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“High treason in the form of providing assistance to a foreign state in wartime”).
Earlier, the head of the Russian Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, called the actions of citizens damaging ballot boxes at polling stations during the Russian presidential election unacceptable.
